recommendation request: need large screen e-reader, ideally waterproof, circa $500

Hi all,

A bit of an odd request; work is frantically busy given the current crisis so my ability to patiently scour the internet is limited, and I'm keen to find a large-screened, ideally waterproof e-reader (ideally 10"+ but I'd accept 8 or 9"+ recommendations).

Background: I'm keen for my parents to self-isolate, and replacing daily physical newspapers would
1). remove a potential vector,
2). reinforce daily that they have an internal locus of control with regards to avoiding infection, and
3). reduce the risk of cabin fever (I.E.: avoid dad reading the paper on a laptop, then lapse into spending all day on youtube or somesuch site, and getting a resulting bolly from mum; I think it's likely that discord reduces the probability of successful self-isolation).

My requirements are:
1). A large screen (in a dream world >10", to minimise digression from the format to which dad is accustomed),
2). Ideally waterproof (aids cleaning, making it altogether better at the breakfast table - both because it is cleaner, and because it can better withstand spillage),
3). Ideally usb-c (because everything else is, although this isn't the end of the world as it doesn't need to be charged daily), and
4). circa $500 and available in the UK (ideally with a link to purchase, as it can be tricky to find sellers of many I've read about).

For reference, the newspapers my father favours are the New York Times, and the UK's Guardian newspaper; if you happen to know idiosyncrasies of their apps/subscription/compatibility, all info gratefully received.

Products I'm considering include the:
Boox note 2
Boyue likebook note if I can find a way to purchase it to the UK...
...but neither are waterproof, which would be extremely desirable.

All suggestions gratefully received! Please please do limit suggestions to those with a link to a website on which I can purchase them - I've read about numerous potential e-readers that aren't actually yet available.

Yours faithfully and with thanks,
Al

edit:

Products I'm considering include the:
Boox note 2 +android 9 -not waterproof
Boyue likebook alita or note -cant find way to purchase to UK -not waterproof
Sony DPT-CP1/B (GBP499) -micro-usb -not waterproof -android 5, I think

Ruled out:
"reMarkable 2" -custom linux OS, can't see how it'd run a newspaper app.

Noooo. Kobos do not support things like apps; there are a few alternative Epub / pdf readers but not items like NYTimes apps.
