It's a previously unpublished story; a sequel of sorts to Ed Noon #1 The Tall Dolores. It wasn't published until last year.

Squall by Sean Costello is FREE at Amazon US.

Quote:
Bush pilot and family man Tom Stokes is about to face the worst day of his life. On a clear winter morning, he sets out to do some repairs on a remote hunt camp, leaving his five-year-old son and very pregnant wife snug in their beds.

On the return trip, a squall forces him into an emergency landing and he winds up—quite literally—in the lap of petty criminal Dale Knight. Dale, now a fugitive from the law—and worse, from a merciless drug lord who just happens to be his brother—draws Tom into a web of mayhem and treachery that puts not only his life at risk, but the lives of his wife, son . . . and unborn child.

The Count of Nine, apa The Count of 9, is the 18th (not the ninth ) in the Bertha Cool & Donald Lam series by Erle Stanley Gardner, who is, of course, much better known for his Perry Mason series. Count has dropped to £1.99 at Kindle UK.

link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Count-Nine-...dp/B00PRWKMWM/

Spoiler:
Quote:
You might call Bertha Cool the broad beam of the Cool and Lam Detective Agency. As this story begins, all 200-odd pounds of her are quivering happily at the thought of a fat fee to come.

All Bertha has to do is guard the priceless treasures of wealthy explorer Dean Crockett II, who is about to throw a fabulous party. But somebody's hand is quicker even than Bertha's gimlet eye, and one valuable jade Buddha and a primitive blowgun disappear.

That's when brainy bantam-weight Donald Lam steps in, and the pace sets off fiercely, before reaching a sensational, unexpected climax.

Currently free in the UK.

Quote:
Be careful before answering your next call. It could be the beginning of your worst nightmare.

After a tough week, Tanya Kaitlin is looking forward to a relaxing night in, but as she steps out of her shower, she hears her phone ring. The video call request comes from her best friend, Karen Ward. Tanya takes the call and the nightmare begins.

Detectives Robert Hunter and Carlos Garcia are thrown into a rollercoaster of evil, chasing a predator who scouts the streets and social media networks for victims, taunting them with secret messages and feeding on their fear.

Havana Fever is the sixth in Leonardo Padura's Mario Conde series. It is free right now at Kindle UK, but not at Kindle US.

link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B083CRRXR5

The blurb is not very informative:

Quote:
Scorching novel from a star of Cuban fiction. The return of Mario Conde.
I've read and enjoyed some of the early titles in this series, and have also read and didn't really enjoy one later title - which book, however, seemed to have been sort of an afterthought, made from a long short story or novella into a book. So I'm still going to look forward to reading this one.

Promised Land is the fourth in the Spenser series by Robert B. Parker. It has dropped to £1.98 at Kindle UK. However, please be aware that there is an omnibus of two Spenser titles, this one and Looking for Rachel Wallace, that is also on sale right now for £1.99. So you might prefer the omnibus for £0.01 more - if so, info on that is in this post.

Otherwise...

The Boston PI gets tangled in Cape Cod’s criminal underworld in this Edgar Award–winning mystery from the New York Times–bestselling author.

Cape Cod businessman Harvey Shepard is in over his head. He lost a quarter million on a shady real estate deal, the loan shark is circling, and now he needs a private investigator to find out where his wife, Pam, disappeared to. Spencer takes the case, but finding Pam isn’t the hard part—the hard part is finding out she’s suspected of a bank robbery that led to murder.

Robert B. Parker’s Spencer novels featuring the former boxer turned Boston PI are “one of the great series in the history of the American detective story.” Promised Land, the Edgar Award–winning fourth Spencer novel, was also adapted into the pilot episode of the classic tv series Spencer: For Hire (The New York Times).

I'm still pretty unhappy with Dana Stabenow for the really bad cliff-hanger in Bad Blood, and the subsequent less-than-redemptive (IMO) Less than a Treason - the two previously most-recent books in her Kate Shugak series. So I've been avoiding the newest title, No Fixed Line. Now, however, it has dropped to £0.99 at Kindle UK, and I'm tempted to give the series one more chance at redemption, mostly since I really really liked most of the books in the series, until recently. We shall see.

Anyway, here's the info on the sale...

Quote:
'Fans will hope this series goes on forever' Publishers Weekly

.... though there is no fixed line between wrong and right,
There are roughly zones whose laws must be obeyed.

It is New Year's Eve, nearly six weeks into an off-and-on blizzard that has locked Alaska down, effectively cutting it off from the outside world.

But now there are reports of a plane down in the Quilak mountains. With the National Transportation Safety Board unable to reach the crash site, ex-Trooper Jim Chopin is pulled out of retirement to try to identify the aircraft, collect the corpses, and determine why no flight has been reported missing. But Jim discovers survivors: two children who don't speak a word of English.

Meanwhile, PI Kate Shugak receives an unexpected and unwelcome accusation from beyond the grave, a charge that could change the face of the Park forever.
