This reminds me of the story about Brendan Behan, theIrish poet. He is said to have once been commissioned to come up with some advertising slogans for Guinness, and was supplied with a crate of bottles by the company. After a few guinness-soaked days he supposedly came up with "Guinness Gets You Drunk".

By1995, there were three different speedboat companies, running 6 times a day, ferrying hordes of backpack travelers. The bungalow colonies began cementing up the walls of their huts, installing roads, bringing in convenience stores, electricity and phones, bars everywhere blaring loud music at night, and the frequent sound of explosives as the locals 'fished' the waters. The diving was getting rather bad as the waters were getting depleted of marine life. By 2001, which was the last time I went there, there were almost as many bar girls (working girls) as tourists, a full time police force and a jail, and traffic lights. There were almost no fish to be seen (comparatively speaking) and the diving became really dull! In the movie, the characters were very worried that others would 'discover' the island and ruin it. They were right to feel that way... although the local Thais are getting rich... or getting shot by other Thais who want to get rich. Stitchawl Last edited by Stitchawl; 08-05-2013 at 11:36 AM. |

@ all: Thanks for your mental support I hope I have enough time to pop in here often.
@ Stitchawl: the field is international cooperation. But barely, because as an intern, I'm doing all the chores interesting experiences, though. |

Take me to the night I'm tippin topsy turvy turning upside down
Hold me tight and whisper what you wish For there is no one here around Oh you may sing song me sweet smiles Regardless of the city's careless frown Come watch the no colors fade blazing Into petal sprays of Violets of Dawn ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhEJ_ZCZuqE ) Good morning, all! So much sunshine today! Will it last? I'm saying 'hello Sun!' with a mug of East India Company's "Royal Breakfast" tea and a plate of Pad Pet Kaeng, Yum Nua, and a veggie omelet. Hello, Sun!!! Despite a successful install of my under-sink water filter, I've decided to be a bit safer. I'm going to return it and buy one with a UV tank as well as the four other stages. There's just too much nasty stuff in S.E. Asian water... It shouldn't be any problem to install; the water fittings are all the same, so just couple them up. All I have to do is run a wire from the breaker box to under the sink and hook up a 220v socket to plug into. I think it may be prudent to add a Ground Fault Circuit breaker to the line, being that I'll be so close to the sink... Piece of cake.... I don't know how electricians can charge so damn much for home wiring jobs. It's as simple as sticking a white wire into the hole that reads 'white,' sticking a black wire into the hole that reads 'black,' and if running a grounded (Earthed) line, a bare wire into the hole marked 'ground.' We don't even need to use a screwdriver any more. The holes are self-gripping! As long as we remember to shut off the power before we start, it's as easy as... check that... it's EASIER than making a pie! Scary when doing it the first time, but then you scratch you head wonder why the electricians can charge as much as they do?!? Stitchawl |

You probably don't want to go there, Stitchawl. Yes, a homeowner can do some wiring. And if (s)he is lucky, it[I] might[/] not cause a fire or electrocute someone. But I have had to clean up from more than one homeowner electrical job. And even where you are, I suspect there are codes. I won't even do electrical work here, since the codes are enough different that I could create a hazard.
Tonight, an excellent BC Syrah from the Naramata Bench. |
