Converting from 600 to 650

I am getting a 650 to replace my 600 (wife will get 600). Do I have to download all the books purchased from the Sony Store after authorizing the new 650 or not?

Only if the originally downloaded books are in the LRX/BBeB format. If the books you previously purchased are in the ePub format then once the 650 is authorized to your Sony account, it is as simple and dragging and dropping these books to your 650 via the Sony software.

I think I have one book left ib BBeb, and it is probably now available in ePub.
