My goal is to read as many books as I can read in 2017. And finish the ones I like without getting distracted. Not assigning a number, just want to establish better habits for the time being.

Books read in 2017:

January: Watership Down by Richard Adams

February:

March:

April:

May:

June:

July:

August:

September:

October:

November:

December:

This is my challenge. There are many others like it, but this one is mine. No, wait, there really aren't any others like it.

Quantity goal: At least 30 books

The "other" goal: The Weird Challenge!

Weird Challenge details:
Spoiler:
Points Goal Overall: 300 Points

Part 1: "I'll take the letter H, Pat."
For each book I read, I must find a way to connect it to the winning letter from 2016. (I've been tallying titles against the alphabet.) For example, if H wins, then I could make the connection with a character whose name starts with that letter, such as Harold, or something in the book, like a horse or hamster. (Hey, it could happen.)

Update 12/31 - The letter H won.

One point for each connection made, up to 5 per book. Bonus point (up to two per book) if the connection is ridiculously obscure or amusing, but it has to be legit and not stupid like "He lives in a House."

Part 2: "I'll take Tangential Reviews for 500, Alex".
Write at least 10 reviews for books read in 2017, and these reviews have to mostly be about anything but the book but still be relevant to the book enough to count as a review. 5 points for each review and 2 bonus points if Mrs J thinks the review is hilarious. (Hey, this was her idea, so why not?)

Part 3: "You've just won a lifetime supply of wine!" - Find (or fabricate) a connection to alcohol for each book I read. (Thanks for the inspiration, Orlok!) One point per connection, up to 5 per book.

Part 4: "The Dating Game"
'Ship characters from different books with each other, and write a few paragraphs about their relationship. At least 5 'ships, each one worth 10 points.

Part 5: "The Gong Show"
Write a poem about any book that I rate less than 3 stars. Worth 5 points each but not factored into points goal because I'm really hoping there won't be too many shitty books in 2017.

Part 6: "Friend or Foe"
For every book I read, relate one of the characters or events to one of my friends on Goodreads. :P One point per book.

As I am not good about updating multiple places, tracking will be on Goodreads as per usual, though I will update here with my overall success or failure.

Participating for the first time here. I plan to read at least 24 books this year. I know I am not a fast reader, and a meager number of 24 books may even be an overkill for me.

1. Be Wise As Serpents - by Fritz Springmeier
2. Black Widow, The - Daniel Silva
3. The Heist - Daniel Silva
4. Decline and Fall of the British Empire, 1781-1997, The - Piers Brendon
5. The Elegant Universe - Brian Green
6. Pompeii's Ghosts - J. Robert Kennedy
7. My Mother Was Nuts - Penny Marshall

In April I've read about 160 pages less than I averagely read in that month. Still not bad, since for the past two weeks life happened and I had both less time to read and when I did have a bit of time I often didn't feel like reading. Overall this year I'm only 100 pages behind average, so it isn't too bad. In two weeks' time I'm away on vacation, another reading retreat, so I should do well this month.

I did finish a Very Long book in April, Judas Unchained by Peter F. Hamilton, which was 1200 pages.
