Libra 2 or Forma

Moving from an Aura One. I specifically wanted buttons and narrowed it down to the Libra 2 or Sage. Looking a them in person not sure if I would like the smaller screen of the Libra as used to the 7.8.

From all of the review of the Sage the battery seems to be terrible. So am thinking maybe the Foma might be the best of both works as have no need for the new functions of the sage but the 32GB is nice. I am in Canada and looking at the prices (CDN and not including tax) with 10% discount directly from the Kobo site:

Libra 2 - 197.99
Sage - 269.99
Refurb Forma - 224.99

Something tells me to grab the Forma as I it meets all the criteria with good battery life, Mobius screen (don't know of any other readers that did under 10"). Seems to be the last of it's kind. The question is does anybody have any experience with refurbs directly from Kobo? It's unfortunate about the Sage's battery. Not much more than the Refurb Forma.

I'm not a fan of my Sage's battery, and have said so more than once, but if I were looking at those numbers and had already decided 7 inches was too small, I'd shell out the extra $45 for a new device, 30-second battery and all.

Yeah. I certainly wouldn't pay that money for a refurb, unless I absolutely must have this specific model. If the Sage is a no-go, I'd get the Libra 2, which has a better screen and contrast than the Forma and costs less.

The Libra is looking more and more appealing now. A bit smaller than I am used to but still more than acceptable.

The refurb Forma is $199.99 here in the states. The new Forma is now $249.99. The new Sage is $259.99. Until last week the new Forma was $209.99. The new Libra 2 is $179.99. They don't have any refurb Libra 2. I have the Aura One and it is working perfectly so I thankfully don't have to make any decision for the time being. Good luck with your decision.

I would choose the Forma without a second thought. The extra inch of screen real estate is worth more than any feature benefit of a smaller reader.

personally, The only reason i would go for the bigger screen is if i will use it for mangas and large page pdfs.

if there is a 6" E-Carta 1200 Clara, i would go for it.

I love the Sage, even though it is a heavy, and has a poor battery life. I don't think I will go back to 7". I still have the Libra H2o, but I never use it, although it is easier on my hands, because I prefer to read with a decent margin all around my books, and my old eyes need a decent pitch: the extra inch means an extra 30% real estate. Plus it has a yellowish screen even with comfort light at 0.
Also, I like to have all my library on the devices and 8 Gb is not enough (presently I am at 20 Gb available).

I love my Elipsa too, which I can't take with me in public transport, but which is fine while seated at home. I use it to read different books : most PDFs are not readable on anything less than 10" (56% more real estate than the 8"), though for some PDFs I need to read in landscape mode, half a page at a time. Conversely, some PDFs built for 6" devices are unreadable on 10" but ok on 8".
For some kepubs as well (I prefer kepubs to epubs), I need the Elipsa:
  • its 1Gb RAM means some books that are not readable on the Sage are ok on the Elipsa
  • some books have tables or maps or pictures or a complexity which need the extra size.

I think this has been one of the deciders for me with coming to feel tepid affection for my Sage - the reading area WITH a decent margin feels the same as on my H2O with the margin set to zero, making it much easier to read.

The larger screen does make for a better reading experience then the smaller 6" screen.

If you fully agree, why did you get the Libra 2 yourself instead of the Forma?

I like the 8" screen of my Sage, but I also like the excellent contrast and even light of my Libra 2. I've switched between them recently, and love them both. In daylight I tend to prefer the Libra, in artificial light the Sage.

The Forma is $209 on Walmart's site and Amazon.

I have never bought a refurb. I also went from Auro On to Forma some years ago. I where looking forward to the new Sage, and originally had the intention to buy it. I was however put off by the increase in weight and poor battery life.

To not risk being without a good e-reader if something happens to my current Forma I just bought myself a second Forma as an backup last week. I was however fortunate to buy a brand new one here in Sweden from a store that still have some in stock.

Good luck with your hunt for a Forma! I love the great 8" screen and light weight!

Totally agree. 8" screens are Gold. When you have used them for some time you never want to go back to a smaller one (even if acceptable/workable). It is such a nice great format for reading books (for comics or PDF I would go for 10" or bigger).
