Yes, and imo Yes. YMMV of course, but I find I get good value out of it, especially when they have deals that give multiple bonus points - like 2X for regular members, 5X for VIPs. Those deals help me get enough points for 2-3 extra 'free' books a year, besides the VIP-only promo discounts.

I have it. I wait for a $5 sale on it to renew because I don't get $10 a year savings from it.

I'm only in my 3rd year, so only one renewal, but have never been offered a discount on renewal. It would be nice if I could my points to renew, but that option too is not available to me.

This is what I do as well. I generally come here and ask if anyone has a 50% code.

My renewal is typically due near the end of October/November. And for the past few years they've had a Black Friday code.
