"I've read many books"
For years, my sister and I have chorused, "I've read many books" and laughed maniacally when someone asks us how we know some obscure fact. We're obviously quoting something, but both of us have forgotten the origin of it. Can anybody help?
(Bev just said she thinks it might be Anthony Hopkins in the movie, "The Edge," but I can't find it in a search. Seems like that might be right, though.) |

Haha nice! I'm not sure what movie that's from though (assuming it is from a movie). It's definitely similar to something Will Ferrell said in Anchorman: "I have many leather-bound books, and my apartment smells of rich mahogany." Also Ben Stiller in Dodgeball -- "In some cultures, they only eat vomit. I've never been there but... I read about it... in a book."

The Edge was a terrible movie by the way. David Mamet should never write anything about man vs. man vs. nature again.

I liked Glengarry Glen Ross because there he seems to be writing about characters, situations and places that he knows something about. The Edge seemed like a screenplay that was written by someone who had never set foot in the wilderness before. It was completely unbelievable.
