Problem launching Calibre in OS X - depends on which USER
Hi everyone
CALIBRE / OS X I can't get Calibre to work from my Administrator account. It just says "Calibre is alreading running" and closes. I created a new account and Calibre works perfectly. The only problem is that for day-to-day use I need to stay as Administrator. I checked if there was a conflict with an automatic log-in item, but no. I repaired permissions, nothing changed. Does anyone have a suggestion? Thanks. |

Permissions problem
Hi again
Thanks again. I don't know if I applied your command line correctly, but I'll keep trying. I'd like to tell you that I am writing from Brazil. The Kindle was launched here three weeks ago. I bought mine a week later. It arrived last week and I have already become a dedicated user. It took less than a day to start looking for ways to use it more fully. Amazon have been very very careful to keep things simple for their 3+million users and a program like Calibre must have a fantastic target population of people like me. Meanwhile, back to my issue. I opened Calibre from a different log-in. I haven't used it yet, but everything seems to be working and this is what I found in the console Nov 10 19:54:22 Nigels-macbook [0x0-0x8c08c].net.kovidgoyal.calibre[1129]: Traceback (most recent call last): Nov 10 19:54:22 Nigels-macbook [0x0-0x8c08c].net.kovidgoyal.calibre[1129]: File "calibre/__init__.pyo", line 414, in <module> Nov 10 19:54:22 Nigels-macbook [0x0-0x8c08c].net.kovidgoyal.calibre[1129]: File "os.pyo", line 157, in makedirs Nov 10 19:54:22 Nigels-macbook [0x0-0x8c08c].net.kovidgoyal.calibre[1129]: OSError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/Users/nigelbrooks/.fonts' Nov 10 19:54:25 Nigels-macbook [0x0-0x8c08c].net.kovidgoyal.calibre[1129]: Traceback (most recent call last): Nov 10 19:54:25 Nigels-macbook [0x0-0x8c08c].net.kovidgoyal.calibre[1129]: File "calibre/utils/ipc/__init__.pyo", line 28, in run Nov 10 19:54:25 Nigels-macbook [0x0-0x8c08c].net.kovidgoyal.calibre[1129]: File "multiprocessing/connection.pyo", line 134, in Client Nov 10 19:54:25 Nigels-macbook [0x0-0x8c08c].net.kovidgoyal.calibre[1129]: File "multiprocessing/connection.pyo", line 252, in SocketClient Nov 10 19:54:25 Nigels-macbook [0x0-0x8c08c].net.kovidgoyal.calibre[1129]: File "<string>", line 1, in connect Nov 10 19:54:25 Nigels-macbook [0x0-0x8c08c].net.kovidgoyal.calibre[1129]: error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory Nov 10 19:54:35 Nigels-macbook com.apple.launchd[75] ([0x0-0x8c08c].net.kovidgoyal.calibre[1129]): Exited with exit code: 1 Nov 10 19:55:26 Nigels-macbook com.apple.launchd[75] (com.apple.RemoteDesktop.agent[311]): Stray process with PGID equal to this dead job: PID 318 PPID 1 AppleVNCServer Nov 10 19:55:37 Nigels-macbook [0x0-0x8f08f].net.kovidgoyal.calibre[1140]: link hasn't been detected! The information OSError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/Users/nigelbrooks/.fonts is the same ... and then there are some differences a little later. I hope this helps. Thanks again. I'll understand completely if you take a while to reply or if you don't have time to help. Best Regards Nigel |

Since it's a permission issue I would recommend using OS X's Disk Utility to repair them. Applications, Utilities, Disk Utility, First Aid tab, Repair Disk Permissions.

Launching Calibre / Permissions problem?
Thanks for the suggestion. I tried what you suggested, but no change. I'm still working on the issue. If you have any more ideas, I would be very grateful. Thanks again.
