Exclamation Does Calibre extract & replicate on disk, books from big ZIP RAR TAR archives?

Does Calibre extract & replicate on disk, books from big ZIP RAR TAR archives?

Would it make sense to then not keep multiple copies?

Or compressed archives as a separate Backup, make sense to have?

It is worth pointing out that all the major ebook formats such as epub, mobi, azw3 are already compressed files so putting them into a compressed archive would only act as a ‘grouping’ mechanism and is unlikely to save much space.
