Post Pinkerton, Allan: The Burglar's Fate and the Detectives (Illustrated). v1. 31 Jul 07

Another in the series of "true life" detective stories from the archives of the Pinkerton detective agency. From the introduction:

In the pages which follow I have narrated a story of actual occurrence. No touch of fiction obscures the truthful recital. The crime which is here detailed was actually committed, and under the circumstances which I have related. The four young men, whose real names are clothed with the charitable mantle of fiction, deliberately perpetrated the deed for which they suffered and to-day are inmates of a prison. No tint or coloring of the imagination has given a deeper touch to the action of the story, and the process of detection is detailed with all the frankness and truthfulness of an active participant. As a revelation of the certain consequences which follow the perpetration of crime, I send this volume forth, in the fervent hope that those who may read its pages, will glean from this history the lessons of virtue, of honor, and of the strictest integrity.

Enjoy!

Just filling in the gaps that I did not learn from Haggard's work.

I still don't know how you guys finish off these books so fast. I love to read, but I can't enjoy it if I try to go that fast.

Right now I'm reading Room to Swing. I had forgotten how wonderful these old detective stories are. I dread putting it down after a few minutes of reading every night. I would probably read for hours on end if I had the time.

Pinkerton may be next for me. I only wish I had all this great material (and e-books also) earlier in life. I stopped most of my casual reading for fun after I graduated from High School. How nice to rediscover great books through MobileRead.

Its very simple Bob, first we have mastered the art of holding the Reader in one hand and using the same hand to change pages. Next we use the other hand for the keyboard and mouse to format books for posting at MobileRead. The music system (or server) is on in the background to drown out the "Honey Do's" and we have the email set to ding if there is a new message. As always the cell phone is next to the keyboard. Of course some sacrifices have to made -- no IM as this requires two thumbs to respond and first run films are out as they frown on the glare from the laptop in the theater.
