I like the one in post 1. Love the old typewriter, though maybe make it a little smaller and the font bolder. I also prefer the original title, though this depends upon what the book is about.

If it's about pre-writing exercises, research or planning, I still think the first title is better. If it's more general, about the process of writing, a kind of "Becoming a Writer" (Dorothea Brande) then the latter title suits more.

I see what Cin means about the '60s wallpaper, maybe a plainer background would be better. This would give you lots of room for a clear, bold black title font and a nice red bold font for your name.

PS The angle of the fountain pens looks a little aggressively phallic.

I like post #17. I'd suggest a deeper blue for the title. An ellipsis instead of a comma. The same deeper blue for "A User's Guide." And a deeper red for your name. And a small drop shadow for the title and your name.

Unfortunately they don't have a deeper red. Not sure if they have drop shadows etc. either. Canva has a good assortment of images and some editing ability but not too much. An image usually seems to run about $1.00 though which isn't bad.

I did some last minute tweaking of what I came up with last evening. Canva allows 24 hrs for any tweaking before the image is set. Which isn't bad really. Anyway I came up with the image below as a possible final cover image. Not perfect but I think it looks pretty good.

Why no capital "W" for write? In a book about writing, this would strike me as shoddy. You're undermining what you purport to be doing.

The word write should be capitalized. Remove the space before the ellipse. Also, there is too much of a line space in the title. Also "a users guide" is just sitting in the middle and doesn't work there. It looks like it just was put there because the title takes too much space. The title and subtitle are a mess.

I don't like the pens. I think in these days, you should have a computer with a word processor showing.

Canva sounds excessively restrictive (or in more accurate but less polite parlance: a PITA).

I hate the title. Especially combined with the notepads. I see those, and I think it's some kind of guide to writing a term paper. And that pen--do they still even make those?

Or, since, this is a cut-off sentence, "you" could be lower case as well as "write..."

I still like the first cover with the typewriter better.

Yep. Fountain pens. Mostly used by artists now, however. Some of them are really expensive.

Absolutely, they still make them! I sometimes use one of mine. The highest I paid for a fountain pen was $200, which is nothing compared to some of the prices out there.

There's a HUGE market for them.

Some important writers still use them. One that immediately comes to mind is John Barth, author of "Giles Goat Boy," "The Sot-Weed Factor", "Lost in the Fun House," "Chimera" [National Book Award for Best Novel], among others.
