Tolino Vision 6 is not detected by Calibre |Win10

Dear All

a brandnew Tolino Vision 6 is not detected by PC with Windows 10 installed.
New cable is also used.

The Tolino is visible on the windows explorer as a harddrive, but it looks like it has to identical partitions (2 identical folders including subfolders).

Any idea what that might be.

I got a firmware update to firmwareversion 16.0.0 on my tolino last night, and now it is not detected anymore. Calibre is running on onenSUSE Tumbleweed, installed via the original binary download from the homepage.

opening the reader as a mtp device with KDE filemanager works fine tho...

On linux only one program can access an MTP device at a time. Prevent your desktop/file manager from automounting the device and it will work fine in calibre.

I just tried on windows, and there calibre still works fine with my reader which seems to confirm what you say.
The funny part is, it used to work just fine on linux too.... but then this is tumbleweed here, and I got two KDE/Plasma version upgrades since I last copied books to my reader two weeks ago. I'll investigate and use windows in the meantime.

On my laptop calibre works fine with the reader on linux, so now I just have to kompare and see what locks it on my desktop machine.

uninstalled mtpfs, mtp-tools and simple-mtpfs, and now it works properly again. One of those must have been used by Plasma and locked my reader.

I use Mate on Mint. I have to pause the "gvfs-mtp-volume-monitor" via right click "Stop process" in System Monitor -> Processes for some Android devices. Some MTP devices work if I right click on desktop icon for the device and "Unmount", but others don't.
You can change control panel settings if using Cinnamon to disable filesystem automount, but that does nothing on Mate (combination of caja file explorer and how gvfs-mtp works.
You can "Continue" the process after eject from Calibre and disconnection. Don't "kill" or "End Process" of "gvfs-mtp-volume-monitor" or it will automatically respawn.
Windows used to have the same problem but now there is an extra layer of driver to "share" the MTP filesystem on windows. It's a horrible system, possibly designed for the Zune.

But likely you can't copy to/from it using the file browser now. See previous post for alternate solutions.
