KePub Output vs KoboTouchExtended

Hello!

I'm currently using KePub Output plugin to convert my ePub files for my Kobo device using Calibre. I've come across the KoboTouchExtended plugin online, and I'm curious to know the difference and if there are any advantages to using it.

Thank you!

For the most part, the Kobo Touch Extended driver converts on the fly so you don't need to keep a copy of the .kepub in your library.

On yet another hand, my personal preference is to use the external kepubify tool to convert to kepub.

I'm curious, why do you prefer that to the extended driver? Is it faster for bulk operations?

The website claims it's 40-80x faster than Calibre:

The drawback is, of course, that it produces kepub files which I'd have to delete afterwards, as I don't want them taking up disk space. Yeah, it's not that time-consuming to delete them, but still... I think I'll stay with the extended driver.

It's faster and it allows me the opportunity to check the ebook before sending it to my ereaders. OTOH, the only books I send as kepub are those that have images such as maps with high enough resolution to make it work zooming in on them and those are few enough that I have never bothered to automate the process of selecting to send epub or kepub.

Use cut and paste instead of copy and paste. Problem solved.

Can I ask why you favour ePub over KePub? Personally, I've encountered some issues with adjusting line spacing in ePub, and I find the accurate page count feature in KePub to be super handy.

While KePubify may be faster at converting, you then have to load the KePub into calibre, and then from there onto your Kobo. Is that faster? And you have an ePub and KePub. So if you don't want the KePub, you have to delete that.

I'm not sure sure what OS you are using (and I don't think it matters), but for Windows, you don't need to load it into Calibre; a simple copy and paste, or cut and paste, or use the command line. If you need help with this, just ask.

And then you won't get the full details. You'll still need calibre.

Regardless, if one doesn't care about the "full details", one doesn't have to use calibre. It would be more helpfull if you gave information on your definition of " full details".

Series, (and maybe collections), description, page numbers, and maybe time to read.

Why wouldn't one get page numbers or time to read.

Isn't their another way to get series?

Because that's all added to the database from calibre via the Kobo driver.
