Download link for Adobe Digital Editions 1.7.2?

You used to be able to download Adobe Digital Editions 1.7.2 from the Kobobooks.com website, from this page:

http://www.kobobooks.com/ade

But the link there now takes you to the download page for ADE 3.0 at the Adobe site. I'm installing a new computer and want ADE 1.7.2 -- the Kobo recommended version. Anybody got the installer for that, or a link to it, please? Many, many thanks!

I do have it, because I just recently had to put in a new hard drive and re-install it myself! There's a link to it on this Adobe FAQ page, under the heading "Manually install Adobe Digital Editions for Windows."

Hmmm. It's not letting me authorize under my existing account; I'm sure I've got the Adobe ID (email address) and password correct, but it's saying "Incorrect username or password." I wonder, now that ADE 3.0 is out, if they're not allowing authorizations of 1.7.2 anymore.

I had trouble, too. I think I had to sign in on the Adobe site separately before I got it to work.

I just re-installed at the very end of February, so they haven't completely shut off access yet. Or at least, they hadn't. Good luck!

pisceschick, thank you! Logging in first to the Adobe website and then into ADE did the trick.

jackastor, oh, it's not a new computer in that sense -- it's an old Dell laptop. Just putting it into service after having it sitting on the shelf as a backup; the unit is replacing is starting to show signs of a wonky hard drive.

Oh well sorry to hear about your hdd. But if the drive is still functional you may be able to clone things across, and if its only semi functional you may still be able to clone things across by placing it in the fridge while you move the information across. The reason the fridge, keeps the electronics cool enough the failing HDD work longer before locking up and usually allows you enough time to clone/copy all pertinent information across.

Three reasons:

1. Version 1.7.2 is easier to install in Linux than later versions.

2. Adobe has issued security bulletins for versions 2.0.0 and 2.0.1.

3. using versions 3.0.0 or later may (depending on whether the retailer has enabled this feature) result in the book being downloaded with the newer DRM scheme, which is not (yet) able to be removed. Moreover, once you have downloaded a book with the new DRM scheme, you can't download it again using the old DRM scheme, even if you revert to an earlier version of ADE.

I usually just check the adobe_diged entry in winetricks. Or simply run winetricks.

I use ADE 2.0.1.78765 and can be downloaded from the Adobe website.
