You are allowed ot open multiple as you can open *different* ones and "compare notes". As for focus returning to book details, sure should be doable, when I have a moment.

I've come across an issue in the Editor where my settings are not saved when closing a book in the editor.

As an example...

When I open a book in the editor for the first time, I will open certain xhtml pages. Lets say, cover.xhtml, dedication.xhtml and copyright.xhtml.
I close the editor. Reopen it and those same pages are open.
I close the editor. Close Calibre portable. Then I open Calibre Portable, the editor and the ebook and those same pages are open.
This is good.

Now, when I open the book in the editor in future, I will close cover.xhtml, dedication.xhtml and copyright.xhtml and open p01c01.xhtml, p01c02.xhtml and p01c03.xhtml.
I close the editor. Reopen it and p01c01.xhtml, p01c02.xhtml and p01c03.xhtml are open.
I close the editor. Close Calibre portable . Then I open Calibre Portable, the editor and the ebook but the original cover.xhtml, dedication.xhtml and copyright.xhtml pages are open. And no matter how many times I restart and close and open different pages, it is always those same pages that were opened the first time that keep reopening.

A bug?

@Karellen: Doesnt reproduce for me with the following steps:

1) Run calibre-portable.exe
2) Select a book, click edit book
3) Open two files in the book
4) Close editor
5) Quit calibre
6) Run calibre-portable.exe
7) Select book click edit book
8) Close previously opened files and open two new ones
9) Close editor
10) Quit calibre
11) Run calibre-portable.exe
12) Select book, click edit book
13) Files from step 8 are open as expected

Released 6.99.1 with the following fixes:

1) Fix vacuum of notes db
2) Fix focus not returning to book information popup after closing show notes
3) Allow specifying size of images when adding images via edit notes
4) Fix editing notes on content server not updating the pencil icon until a reload
5) Fix start wireless connection failing to register the BonJour service name

I've installed v6.99.1 and my issue is no longer present.
I guess I had a gremlin on my system.

And on my other point, I was questioning the desirability of allowing the same note to be viewed in multiple windows… i.e. same book id (123), same column (Tags), same value (Historical).

I'm on now version 6.99.1 (not the portable), windows 10.

At first look, things are still running. The content server viewer, which I'm using the most, is still running without (new) issues so far.

And since it is for a major upgrade, I would like the Content Server homepage to have a new/improved look... hopefully

My idea now includes: 2 more rows under "Continue Reading...": "New books", "Modified books" (Modified means updated book files, updated metadata..." (configurable in Preferences)

Version 6.99.1 (Windows 10)

1) "Insert link" doesn't do anything (the hyperlink is not saved) <<< wrong

1) Editting Note in Main Calibre: It is not saved if hitting OK right after working in the HTML view (requiring to switch to Normal View first)

2) Content Server: The notes can be read and editted, but currently not created. <<< wrong, it can be done.

3) Content Server: Can't edit Comments

But I don't know where one is meant to click on them.

Whilst I can't click on links in the long text column editor, I can click on them in in the Book details panel. But I've not seen any place to view category notes in a form where the links are clickable. But I may have missed it… if not, maybe this:



I also noticed the Create link tool lacks some of the features in the similar tool in the link text editor e.g. the Browse to folder and file buttons.

@BetterRed, I rebooted Calibre and indeed it got saved. Clicking on it in the Main Calibre doesn't open the browser. Clicking on it in the Content Server opens the linked page in the current tab.

And after editing in "HTML View", hitting OK doesn't save it.

After editting in HTML View, switching to Normal View, hitting OK saves it.

@nqk - I don't use the Content server, nevertheless I did a test.:

I can click on the https:// URL and get to the web page, but can't click on the file:// and calibre:// URLs. Not surprised the file links didn't work, but would have thought a calibre link to the same library might work. For a giggle I added a Onenote link - sort of worked.

I'm thinking the feature is limited, by design, to HTML text, embedded images, and http(s):// URLs.

For linking within the Content Server, the link should be the last part only, starting #book-id.... and it should open, at least if you choose to open in another tab (by clicking the wheel, not sure how it will work with touch screen).

And I have to take the 2) back, because there is indeed the ability to add notes to several fields in the Content Server. I overlooked it. My bad.

@nqk - just realised, the Note viewer recognises the links, see the finger point cursor in following screen shot:



Just that a click (of any sort) doesn't do anything.
