The Grimoire: Lichgates by S. M. Boyce. YA epic fantasy. The first in a trilogy. Claims to be published by Delphi and/or Pilium. Many positive reviews but sampling is suggested.
http://www.amazon.com/The-Grimoire-L...7874824&sr=1-1

Quote:
The Grimoire turns its own pages and can answer any question asked of it, and Kara Magari is its next target. She has no idea what she's getting herself into when she stumbles across the old book while hiking a hidden trail. Once she opens it, she's thrown into Ourea: a beautiful world full of terrifying things that all want the Grimoire's secrets. Everyone in this new world is trying to find her, and most want to control her.

Braeden Drakonin grew up in Ourea, and all he’s ever known of life is lying. The Grimoire is his one chance at redemption, and it lands in his lap when Kara Magari comes into his life. He has one question to ask the book – one question that can fix everything in his broken life – and he’s not letting Kara out of his sight until he gets an answer.

There’s no escaping Ourea. There’s no going back now

WARNING: ATDrake look away and anyone else professing sock puppet hostility.

Moonlight Falls by Vincent Zandri. Amazon's bad boy offers his 2009 RJ Buckley published mystery. Naturally, reviews are above average. Whether he has talent or not I'll leave for you to decide.
http://www.amazon.com/Moonlight-Fall...7875738&sr=1-1

Quote:
In MOONLIGHT FALLS, novelist and photo journalist Vincent Zandri asks the question "If you knew your life could end at any moment, how far would you go to prove you murdered your lover? " Albany, New York, is the setting of Zandri's paranoid thriller (in the Hitchcock tradition) about Richard "Dick" Moonlight, former APD detective turned private investigator/massage therapist, who believes he killed Scarlet Montana - his illicit lover and wife of his ex-boss, Chief of Detectives Jake Montana. The problem is ... Moonlight doesn't remember what happened

This is Crista McHugh's freebie mentioned by ATD.

The Tears of Elios (A Fantasy Romance) by Crista McHugh.
http://www.amazon.com/Fantasy-Romanc...7876937&sr=1-1

Quote:
Shape-shifters' Rule #1: Don't let the humans know you still exist.

Rule #2: If a human finds out about you, silence them.

Some rules were meant to be broken...

Ranealya ruthlessly plays by the rules and has outlived most of her race because of it. If she wants to survive, she'll have to stick to them, especially with a genocidal tyrant hell-bent on destroying all the non-humans in the realm. But everything falls apart when a human saves her life.

Gregor knows he's inviting trouble when he helps a wounded shape-shifter, but he can't pass up the opportunity to study one before they become extinct. She disturbs the quiet order of his scholarly existence, vexes him in more ways than he can count, and encourages him to break enough of the kingdom's laws so that not even being the king's cousin will save his head. The problem is, he's already lost his heart.

They broke free from their work stations and ran giggling down the factory hallways, stopping only to write crude missives on the walls. Transcribed here for your amusement, the most original voices in crime fiction offer you 27 tales of revulsion, heartbreak, and violence. Welcome to The First Shift.

Literally Dead by James Conroy. Historical fiction with Ernest Hemingway (?) published by Knox Robinson.
http://www.amazon.com/Literally-Dead...7880809&sr=1-1

Quote:
In the midst of the Great Depression, one man must do battle against corruption with nothing but his wits and a host of great literary figures... Amos Jansen is merely a clerk. He is not a crime fighter, the next great writer, or a man of privilege. He is the humble employee of a Chicago literary society. That is, until he is arrested for murder. The scapegoat of a perfidious lieutenant, Jansen stands wrongly accused while his idols rally around him. Literary personalities the likes of Ernest Hemingway, Carl Sandburg, Edna St. Vincent Millay, Nelson Algren, and H.L. Mencken, as well as civil liberties war-horse Clarence Darrow, join Amos in his search for the real murderer of both the society's vice-chairman and his own father. Will the pen prove mightier than the pistol? Will mercenary police, politicians and money-barons meet with justice? Or will Jansen fail to solve the mystery and wind up literally dead?

#1 rated free title today. I didn't bother sampling. Not my thing even if readable.

Running from Solace by Nakia R. Laushaul. Family drama/spirituality.
http://www.amazon.com/Running-from-S...pr_product_top
Quote:
"She passed a hard candy over her shoulder as though whatever was in the tiny wrapper was supposed to make it all better. I clutched the peppermint in my hand and buried my face in the hard leather seat while she explained what was going to happen to me. She promised that I'd be safe from then on." And so begins the journey of Naomi, whose amazing story picks up where the past and future intersect. As Naomi struggles to hide the ugly physical and emotional reminders that insist on haunting her dreams, she crosses paths with a young boy, Xavier and his bad-tempered mother, Mona, who both share an interesting story much like her own. Running from Solace is an emotional tale which will send you catapulting on a breathless journey beyond breaking points and will lead you to believe in the power of accepting what is to be.

Here's today wild card.

Blood Harvest by Michael Louis Weinberger. Horror vampires. Looks like a selfie.
http://www.amazon.com/Blood-Harvest-...7882792&sr=1-2
Quote:
Steve Jacobs isn't a Vampire...not really...then again...It doesn't really matter what he is or was anymore because Steve abandoned the darkness of his former life over a decade ago when he left the only people he ever considered to be family and ran to California. There he joined the Los Angeles Police Department, graduated first in his class at the Academy and now works as a Detective in the Homicide division. Respected by his fellow officers and enjoying a special bond with his Captain, whom he considers to be his mentor, Steve feels that he has finally found a place where the world makes sense and he can leave his dark past behind. So when his Captain calls in the middle of the night and instructs him to come to a highly unusual crime scene, Steve does so without question.Arriving on the scene Steve discovers that the entire staff and patronage of nearly one thousand people at a popular and hedonistic Los Angeles nightclub have suddenly and mysteriously collapsed where they stood and appear to be dead. Rumors of a biological or chemical terrorist attack are doubted by the large number of LAPD and emergency personnel on the scene, but there seems to be no other explanation for the unnerving occurrence. Then, before Steve can even fully begin his investigation, the case goes from unusual to absolutely bizarre with the appearance of an exotically beautiful and seductive woman in the company of a large, incredibly powerful white haired man. Both individuals are people that Steve thought he had left behind over a decade ago, but he now finds his past and his present are interwoven together in a mystery that threatens to destroy everything that he holds dear. Steve quickly learns that what happened at the nightclub was only the tip of the iceberg in a much larger conspiracy of greed that, if he is unable to stop, will enslave an entire society of people, the existence of whom the rest of the world isn't even aware, and are the people that Steve used to call his family.

Zandri's not necessarily a sockpuppeteer when it comes to the reviews.

But he is a spamming spammer who used to spam* a lot on the Amazon discussion boards before the self-promoting authors all got sent to the cornfield banished to the specially quarantined self-promo area which they keep trying to sneak out of.

* He'd get his family, or at least usernames with sufficiently exactly the same last name to qualify as family, to spam for him, too. I'm pretty sure I've mentioned it before as why I personally don't bother with his books even though he's some Dell-published formerly acclaimed writer or somesuch.

ETA: The Conroy Hemingway book looks kind of interesting and the sample seems to read fairly decently. Thanks for finding it.
