Inkpad 4 and the system ebook viewer

Since I'm not an English speaker, I'm using a translator, hoping you can understand what I'm writing.
Hi everyone, I've had an Inkpad 4 for about a month and I'm quite happy with it. When using the system ebook viewer, I notice a few things, like this. When opening the ebook, sometimes three dots appear in the middle of the bottom where the "page number/total pages" normally is, plus another larger one that scrolls back and forth over the smaller ones. This sometimes lasts a couple of minutes or longer. Is it the page count recalculated after, for example, increasing the font size? If this doesn't happen, for a while I see a small hourglass in the bottom left of the reader and I don't understand what it does. I've disabled both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and I don't use the sync feature. Do these two things happen to you too? I tried using Koreader, which is a step up from the system reader, but it has too many features/settings and I'm only interested in reading.

Yes, this is exactly what’s happening, it’s re-calculating the amount of pages and it takes a while. My Verse Pro does it too.

You can confirm it by triggering the text to speech feature while the dots are displayed, the device will show a prompt that says that the playback will start once the page counting is finished.

It’s rather infuriating but it is what it is.

I've also recently acquired an InkPad 4, and installed KOReader on it. I agree that there's a lot to it. I also find it rather unintuitive. However, I think that it's worth persevering a bit. Once you've got the default layout (font, margins, line spacing, status bar etc.) set to your liking, using it is as straightforward as the stock reader.

That's true, I'm trying it out, and once you've set up the default layout, as you say, it's very easy to use. I also use the Zen-UI plugin, which makes the user interface even more streamlined. I think it's the best idea.

I hadn't heard of the Zen UI plugin (I've only had KOReader a few days), so thanks for mentioning it. I've just done a bit of basic research, and it looks worthy of further investigation (i.e., a trial installation).
