I can't seem to get this to fully work on my KA1, I can get it to replace 'browse kobo', but using the below example only 345678 show up.

If I don't comment out the find your next great read one, nothing happens.

You ignored the replace string of "Find your next great read".
The replace string mast be at length mast be 25 char, in the patch I post replace it with space " " so it look like it's nothing there, you can change it as you like.

The second line "BROWSE KOBO" i set as ignore, you can remove the # and also activate it, but you need to replace only the "BROWSE KOBO" and it mast be at the length 11.


I replace the patch and make it more understandable, If you copy it as is you get:

Now if only I could make the 'find your next great read' be the tile that's displayed in the footer instead of 'browse kobo'.

I don't quite understand what you mean, but you want to check the Adding new interface languages, so you can change the French translation.

Thanks for your work.

In the code all the messages are given in English, and these messages are translated on the fly when you choose another language. That means that it is the length of the English strings that is important. That means if you do it by the patching method as provided here.

The other method would be to overwrite the entries in the translation file (see the link posted by Oren64). This method has the advantage that you are not so strictly limited to a certain length of the string, and this solution will work on your device without reapplying it until Kobo changes the English string.

Edit: The method with the translation file can also be use for English, since the (English) message strings of the program code are also "translated" on the fly into English.
