Any source for the number of chapters in a book?

I catalog my physical books in Calibre. A year or two after doing this, I started adding chapter counts to the book records. Pulling them all back off the bookshelves just to check the table of contents is a bit tiring.

Are there any book sites that list the number of chapters?

I don't know anything about such a resource, but I am curious as to why you care how many chapters there are. It seems like a number without a lot of meaning.

Why are you cataloging chapters? What does that get you in terms of how long the book is? A James Patterson books with over 100 chapters is no longer then an average novel with say 20 chapters.

I don't know of any specific sites, but how about just using an ebook store site (like Amazon) and use "Look Inside"?

The only way I can think of to find the number of chapters is to look at the corresponding digital books (Amazon, OverDrive, publisher sites), since a table of contents is usually included in the sample. It would still be tedious and time-consuming.

Some literary novels (and novellas) - and based upon the author's use of narrative technique and how she or he views a novel's construction - do away with chapters altogether. ('m thinking of Thomas Bernhard.)

I might add that I thoroughly enjoy Kobo's reading tool that allows one to gauge the length of a chapter as a visual when engaging in a novel.

For what it matters, I've been using a combination of Kobo/Kindle previews for books available as eBook, and then looking up the old out-of-prints on Open Library.

re: Chapters. A Chapter heading accompanied by a clever title can draw you in, much like a well written blurb.
