nightboy-

I've got an Icarus Illumina XL (well actually an inkBOOK 8, but it has the ICILXL firmware loaded and works perfectly) and I was wondering if your TWRP recovery would work on this device?

It's identified as a Model rk30sdk and Product T80. It uses the Rockchip 3026 and seems to be based on the Boyue firmware. I haven't figured out the screen resolution exactly, it's either 758 or 768 x 1024 or 944. It behaves very much like an 8" version of the T61x regarding root, etc.

What's the differences between the T61B, T61C, and T61D? I'd think one of these would work on my device,.

There are few differences between the T61B, T61C, and T61D like the touch screen driver and the eink screen. I am not sure if there are other differences between them but they all have the same board SOC.

inkBOOK 8's screen resolution is 768 x 1024. So it is a bit different than T61B, T61C, and T61D (758 X 1024). I need to get the boot.img or recovery.img file in order to create a twrp recovery with all functions for this device.

I wasn't sure whether the screen was 758 or 768 pixels wide.

devicespec_artatech_rk30sdk.json from the original inkBOOK install says 768 and all the bootanimation, shutdownanimation, and screensaver files are 758. I'm not sure where I found the 944 pixel high figure.

I pulled build.prop (from after I flashed the Icarus update) and it says it has a net.hostname=Boyue_T62D entry, so there's that.

If you're offering to create a TWRP version for this device, I'd love to help you. I've got the system update img from Icarus and I've got an old inkBOOK system update img. Can you get boot or recovery img files out of those? If not, I've got root and adb running. Can I pull them and provide them to you that way? I'm not sure how to find out.

Hello nightboy,
I have a shiny new (and already rooted) "Energy Pro HD". Does the filename "TWRP_recovery_Energy_eReader_ProHD_v1.zip" correctly indicate that this recovery should work with my device? Thanks!

steve@steve-Peppy:~$ cd /home/steve/Android/platform-tools/
steve@steve-Peppy:~/Android/platform-tools$ adb devices
List of devices attached
22610501029268 device

steve@steve-Peppy:~/Android/platform-tools$ adb shell
shell@android:/ $ su
root@android:/ # cd /sdcard/
root@android:/sdcard # flash_image recovery TWRP.img
sh: /system/bin/flash_image: not executable: magic 7F45
1|root@android:/sdcard #

if i try to mount system as read & write it still wont work, i dont think the system is mounted properly as i still dont seem to have permission to change permission

steve@steve-Peppy:~$ cd /home/steve/Android/platform-tools/
steve@steve-Peppy:~/Android/platform-tools$ adb devices
List of devices attached
22610501029268 device

steve@steve-Peppy:~/Android/platform-tools$ adb shell
shell@android:/ $ su
root@android:/ # mount -o rw,remount,rw /system
root@android:/ # cd /sdcard/
1|root@android:/sdcard # chmod 755 /system/bin/flash_image
root@android:/sdcard # flash_image recovery TWRP.img
sh: /system/bin/flash_image: not executable: magic 7F45

Did you try to use fastboot to directly flash the recovery image from your computer instead of adb? I use this to install Google's monthly security updates to my Nexus5 phone from my Windows computer, but I guess it works from Linux as well. But I did not (yet) try if this also works with the Pro HD.

>fastboot reboot-bootloader
>fastboot flash recovery TWRP.img

Of course the recovery image TWRP.img must then reside on the computer, and not on the Pro HD, since fastboot will transfer it to the device and then flash it.

I did try fast boot and unfortunately I haven't managed to find a driver that will work as yet. On my windows windows virtual machine fast boot gets stuck at waiting for device. Windows can see the device in device manager, rockusb device.

I have since tried using insecure adb and still couldn't get past this error magic not executable. Personally I'd like to see the first post provide slightly more information upon how to install, step by step. The only reason I want to install twrp is to root the device by flashing SuperSU so I can uninstall this rootmaster 1.3.6 apk which I gave used to root my device. I keep getting notifications it might be a harmful application

Of course the recovery image TWRP.img must then reside on the computer, and not on the Pro HD, since fastboot will transfer it to the device and then flash it.
Rockchip based devices do not support fastboot mode - they instead have a download mode, and specific apps to flash a whole image (or a partial one, depending on the app). They work similar to fastboot but the protocol is different, this regular fastboot won't work.

It should work.
