Hi from North Carolina!
We live in very interesting times, as the print media goes through transitions to best reach the reading public.
I enjoy reading but taking 3 or 4 books on vacation is not the ideal way to travel. I am beginning to look at e-readers (Sony, Kindle, etc) hoping to have something by Cruise Ship Vacation in early December. This Forum appears to be a great resource. |

Howdy, Neighbor KayakerNC!
E-readers are great for trips. Almost anything you buy will be better for a cruise voyage than a suitcase full of paper books. (Personally, I love my Kindle 2.) And since you'll be around water, you may want to consider an AquaPac for your reader. Just a thought. |

Hi KayakerNC and welcome to MobileRead. I've had a Sony 505 since Jan 08 and like it a lot. And it is especially handy on vacation or travel in general.
I have the MEdge Leisure cover which is water resistant and adds a bit of extra protection to the reader which is handy on travel. |

Definitely get an ebook reading device by the time you go on vacation. One slim little thing to pack with lots of books on it is just heavenly.
And you'll look terribly sophisticated lounging on deck reading ebooks. |

Welcome Kayaker! I'm in Johnston County.
You might want to consider for your vacation an eBook reader that allows the user to change batteries. Thus you can buy two batteries and charge them both, and then know that your reader won't fail mid-vacation because of a dead battery that needs 12 hours to recharge. Astak sells eBook readers of that type. They have their own forum here. They have recently introduced the Pocket Pro, and will soon introduce the Mentor Lite 2. |

When I travel I carry an iGo charger in my carry on bag. It's about the size of a deck of cards and holds two AA batteries and you can use it charge your eBook reader (in my case a Sony 505) and cell phone.

You only look sophisticated if people know that what you're reading is an ebook. If they don't, you can look like a real dummy! Once, while reading with the leather jacket on, someone watched me for about 15 minutes before finally walking up and peering over my shoulder and saying, "Oh, that's an electronic reader! I thought you were taking that long to read one page!"
