Ebook Exporting getting unexpected Results
I spent several days editing metadata for a lot of ebooks fixing titles, authors, series, series numbers etc.
today I exported several hundred books and put them in my android e-reader to look at the results of all my work. Not one series had the series order saved Several authors not even listed in my Authors Column in Calibre were listed. Some titles were removed from the series and were not listed as in any series Some metadata seemed to "revert" to the old info in some fields My questions are Is there a "maximum" number of books I can export at one time? Is there possible a step I am missing when I export books Any help at all is greatly appreciated |

What does "export" mean? Use either send to device or save to disk in calibre to export. Only those update metadata. Otherwise use the embed metadata tool to embed the metadata in the library copies of the book files in calibre before exporting.

I used Save to disk I said here the term "export" as it was much quicker to type. at the moment looking at the metadata plugboard to see if my solution is there. Most of the metadata did save just seems to be random that the author isn't updated and none of the series indexes updated.

Open the exported files using the calibre viewer right click, chose go to and then metadata and that will tell you if the metadata is correctly updated in the files or not.

Once you update Calibre with the metadata, you need to open the eBook in the Editor for the metadata to be written into the ebook

Thanks for your help, yes the metadata is saving correctly for me. I'm really starting to like calibre that I'm taking the time to really learn how to mold it to my needs.
New question is there a guide on the metadata plug board? Now that I am gettng files to rename to what I want somewhat I want to try and tweak them so that if The book is in a series I can put the Series into their own directory and not get the non series books not to have leading [] - in the file names. I'd also like to get preceding 0s on the series numbers so that they appear on my disc in order. don't want someone to tell me how just looking for a general guide on how to use the plugboard thanks |

AFAIK Neither does anything but update the metadata (It happens way quicker that a 'conversion').
OTOH The reason I polish / embed Metadata / Modify Epub is if I ever need to do a ugly (re-import because all else was lost) restore. |
