ADE opening blank

All of a sudden Adobe Digital Editions 2.0 loads but shows no content, even after uninstall and reinstall. The previously loaded ebooks are still in the ADE folder on the disk. Tried to download an ebook again from Kobo.com and it goes to the disk ADE folder but still won't show up in ADE library.

How can I get ADE to once again display and manage ebooks?

Thanks.

What does ADE show for it's authorization? Is there some reason for using an antique version of ADE? Remember the call home nonsense with ADE 4 was removed in 4.5.

I don't know how to check the ADE "authorization". It has always worked up to now.

My recollection is that we have to use ADE 2.0 because later versions will not work for some reason, which reason I cannot recall.

Please advise. Thank you.

There are reasons for using ADE 2.0.1. One being for testing ePub3 eBooks on an ePub2 program.

But in this case, I it was because of the new in later versions that was unable to be removed. That has since been fixed in DeDRM. So you can remove both versions of ADE DRM. If it was DRM that was holding you back, the go ahead and install ADE 4.5.12. Just make sure you have at least DeDRM 10.0.9 or the Alpha version.

I don't ever remove DRM and don't really care to.

What are my options for getting a workable ADE since ADE 2.0 seems to no longer be working for me?

Thanks.

Your best option would be to setup ADE 4.5.12 and get DeDRM up and running in case you do get the new DRM that your Readers won't handle.

I didn't recall the DRM issue being the cause of needing ADE 2.0. Is that the only reason for sticking with ADE 2.0?

Thanks again for the help.

One reason for ADE 2.0.1 is to test ePub3 eBooks on an ePub2 program.

But if you do upgrade, you should remove ePub DRM in case you do get hit with the newer DRM. Otherwise, you won't be able to read that ePub other then on the computer.

But removing the DRM is as easy as adding an eBook to calibre. Once installed, the plugin does the heavy lifting. Download the alpha version of DeDRM from here...

My Kobo ebooks are downloaded to ADE and NOT to Calibre. How will Calibre get involved in the process? Will my Kobo receive the ebooks from Calibre instead of from ADE?

Thanks.

I used to use ADE 2.0 until recently, too, when I stopped being able to redeem ACSM files with it. Calibre has an ACSM plugin that replaces ADE entirely, so you can redeem ACSM files directly through Calibre. If you have the DeDRM plugin configured, DRM is automatically removed when you redeem the ACSM file. I ended up going this route, because I couldn't find a way to fix ADE 2.0. It seems like Adobe is making changes on the backend that are slowly cutting off ADE access, at least for 2.0.

ADE 2.0.1 still works here.

Does DeDRM get the key from DeACSM if you need to use a different adobe account?

My Kobo books are downloaded by default to ADE 2.0. Can you please provide explicit step-by-steip instructions on how to set up what you do?

Thanks you.

I'm hoping that M-A-Y-B-E the problem is solved. I once again uninstalled ADE 2.0 but this time deleted the whole ADE 2.0 folder and started from scratch. I reinstalled ADE 2.0 and it created a new/fresh ADE 2.0 folder.

I just now was able to download an ebook from Kobo to ADE 2.0 then drag the new ebook from the ADE 2.0 Library to the Kobo ereader and it appears to be on the Kobo ereader in good shape.

This suggests that the ADE 2.0 folder was corrupted and the new folder might allow ADE 2.0 to start working like it should.

Any thoughts?

Fingers crossed.

The problem with ADE is that is keeps everything in the same directory. So even if you delete something or return it to the library, it stays in the library. It just removed it from the file that keeps a list of your library. The other thing is that when the ADE library directory gets full enough, it can really be slow to run ADE as it spends time reading that directory fill of eBooks. So the wa to fix the slow down is to either delete the existing directory or rename the existing directory.
