Well, I connect maybe once or twice a month, as I usually load a bunch of books at once. That's certainly not often enough for regular charging.

I also have the full page refresh enabled for every page; I expect this drains the battery more quickly than partial refresh.

Wow, under an hour to charge is pretty fast. It would probably take my Libra twice as long to do a full charge from a 10W charger.

Not to mention the horrendous battery life. I received it on midday day 1 and fully charged the battery. Very lightly used that day and day 2. Picked it up at bedtime the night of day 2 and the screen had the picture of a dead battery. Ridiculous. My Kobo Aura One is 6/7 years old and the battery easily lasts 1-2 weeks. I bought it from Walmart because they have a free return policy. Glad I did. It came from a third party, Blue Proton, which I have heard may charge a restocking fee. Makes me wonder if they are trying to sell returned items as new hoping new customers will accept e-readers others have judged unacceptable.
I believe you are correct. Nothing was refurbished. My device must have been a return.

That is a "feature" that was introduced in the Kobo firmware quite a while back. The two windows simply show a dummy font so you can see the effects of the weight and size sliders.

As for being totally useless? I can see the size and weight comparison between the two windows and on the fonts I use, the results match what I see when reading.

Typically 40 minute when very low, on a compatible charger. My TCL 33W chargers are compatible, so must it may use the Qualcomm scheme, though only at 5V. Other chargers are charging much slower (likely the common 500 mA rather than 1.5A). Doesn't fast charge on Dell Optiplex 7050 USB-C or on my Lenovo laptop's USB-C (which can't be turned off even when laptop off as charging port unlike my older Lenovo that had a BIOS setting).

Upon entering “Advanced” mode the size of the fonts in the two windows did not match the current size of the reading font. The fonts were extremely small in comparison. I think you are right about font type. I have already returned the e-reader so I cannot be more specific about what was happening.

That's not what I'm seeing on my Kobos.

It seems both your Sage and Pypeke's had some weird font issues going on - maybe that's why they were returned.

I think you are probably right. I purchased a refurbished Forma some months ago that had bad battery performance from day one. By day three it wouldn't even turn on. I returned it and was told it had a "defective part." I did get a prompt refund. But I suspect the device had the "defective part" before they sent it to me.

Well, I learned a lesson. Kobo will not refund 100% of the purchase plus I have to pay the shipping costs. If I bought it from Amazon, I could return it for 100% of the cost. Lesson learned!

FYI: There is a comment from someone on the Amazon site for the Sage that says they were charged a $36 restocking fee by BlueProton. A Sage from Amazon is sold by BlueProton.

I just received my refund from Walmart for a Sage that was sent from BlueProton. I received a full refund plus taxes and return shipping cost me nothing.

I bought a Libra Colour and the weight works fine on it. However, I am having the same issue with that one font called AR UDJingxihei. It still adds spaces after an apostrophe. I change the font, but it reverts back to it every time I open a new book. It is first on the font list after publisher default.

Can the "AR UDJingxihei" font be deleted from the Kobo?

I really liked some of the fonts that were on the sage, but they are not available on the Libra Colour.

I just checked, and the Amazon eReader was from BlueProton. It surprises me that Walmart isn't charging a restocking fee. Seems like Kobo would not send out defective products without checking them out. I will call them Monday.

I have never side loaded anything (that I know of) so I don't understand anything but Nook and Kindle ereaders. I have used the Kobo Sage for a couple of weeks.

When I use Calibre to put books on my Kobo that were bought 10-20 years ago, is that what side loading means? Did I sideload those books?

When I get a book from Kobo Plus or buy a book from Kobo, that is NOT side loading? What is it called?

Now that I have used the Kobo for a couple of weeks, is there anything else I need to do? Do I need to backup the Kobo? Is it good enough to have all books on Calibre?

My Calibre skills are very basic, and I don't understand some of the terminology people use on posts. I have yet to figure out what CSS is or whether I need it...

Thanks

Sideload is copy by ANY method, anything not bought direct from the shop associated with the ereader.

It's not to do with how old it is, PD vs copyright, USB, vs SD card VS WiFi.

Backup Calibre.

Depends on Country. EU, UK and some other places they must pay all the costs and repair/refund or replace, for a year, if not as advertised or supplied faulty, or if it fails due to design/ manufacturing defect.
