Graham Masterton's The Hymn is $2.99 at Amazon.

A mysterious rash of sacrificial deaths in California leads an investigator into a nightmare world of paranormal cults and Nazi terror.

Chase Novak's (a pen name) Breed is on sale for $1.99 at Amazon. I know very little about the book, though Stephen King says it's the best horror novel he's read since Peter Straub's Ghost Story. It was also supposed to be made into a movie. The article's two years old though and it doesn't look like the movie was released.

Critically celebrated novelist Scott Spencer delivers a Rosemary's Baby-like novel of gothic horror, set against the backdrop of modern-day Upper East Side Manhattan.

Alex and Leslie Twisden lead charmed lives-fabulous jobs, a luxurious town house on Manhattan's Upper East Side, a passionate marriage. What they don't have is a child, and as they try one infertility treatment after the next, yearning turns into obsession. As a last-ditch attempt to make their dream of parenthood come true, Alex and Leslie travel deep into Slovenia, where they submit to a painful and terrifying procedure that finally gives them what they so fervently desire . . . but with awful consequences.

Ten years later, cosseted and adored but living in a house of secrets, the twins Adam and Alice find themselves locked into their rooms every night, with sounds coming from their parents' bedroom getting progressively louder, more violent, and more disturbing.

Driven to a desperate search for answers, Adam and Alice set out on a quest to learn the true nature of the man and woman who raised them. Their discovery will upend everything they thought they knew about their parents and will reveal a threat so horrible that it must be escaped, at any cost.

As seems appropriate, I'm bringing this thread back from the dead...

Peter Straub's Floating Dragon is $1.99 at Amazon. The book's a bit of a well written mess, but worth the read. Similar in style to King's Salem's Lot and Straub's own Ghost Story, Floating Dragon is a sprawling horror tale about an entire town. The story isn't easy to sum up, but here's what the publisher says it is about:

The quiet suburban town of Hampstead is threatened by two horrors. One is natural. The hideous unstoppable creation of man’s power gone mad. The other is not natural at all. And it makes the first look like child’s play...

One that's been on my wishlist for a while is on sale: Thomas Olde Heuvelt's Hex is on sale for $2.99 at Amazon

Originally published in The Netherlands, when the book was translated, the author decided to rewrite the story, moving the location to an isolated town in the Hudson Valley and giving his characters American names and he changed the ending.

Whoever is born here, is doomed to stay 'til death. Whoever settles, never leaves.

Welcome to Black Spring, the seemingly picturesque Hudson Valley town haunted by the Black Rock Witch, a seventeenth century woman whose eyes and mouth are sewn shut. Muzzled, she walks the streets and enters homes at will. She stands next to children's bed for nights on end. Everybody knows that her eyes may never be opened or the consequences will be too terrible to bear.

The elders of Black Spring have virtually quarantined the town by using high-tech surveillance to prevent their curse from spreading. Frustrated with being kept in lockdown, the town's teenagers decide to break their strict regulations and go viral with the haunting. But, in so doing, they send the town spiraling into dark, medieval practices of the distant past.

William Hjorstberg's Falling Angel (the basis for the film Angel Heart) is $1.99 at Amazon.

Louis Cyphre hires private investigator Harry Angel to find missing singer Johnny. At the hospital, Angel learns that the singer has disappeared. It is no ordinary missing-person’s case. Everyone he questions dies soon after, as Angel’s investigation ensnares him in a bizarre tangle of black magic, carnival freaks, and grisly voodoo. When the sinister Louis Cyphre begins appearing in Angel’s dreams, the detective fears for his life, his sanity, and his soul.

The title brings Nightbreed to mind but the plot sounds more like Rosemary's Baby!

Speaking of Nightbreed, Clive Barker's Cabal (the novella he adapted into Nightbreed) is only $3.99 at Amazon. That's it's regular price (ereaderiq says it's gone for $0.99-1.99). But still, not a bad price.

The Family Plot by Cherie Priest is 2.99 at Amazon.com

https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01AGBYTEA

Quote:
Music City Salvage is owned and operated by Chuck Dutton: master stripper of doomed historic properties and expert seller of all things old and crusty. Business is lean and times are tight, so he’s thrilled when the aged and esteemed Augusta Withrow appears in his office. She has a massive family estate to unload—lock, stock, and barrel. For a check and a handshake, it’s all his.

It’s a big check. It’s a firm handshake. And it’s enough of a gold mine that he assigns his daughter Dahlia to personally oversee the project.

Dahlia and a small crew caravan down to Chattanooga, Tennessee, where the ancient Withrow house is waiting—and so is a barn, a carriage house, and a small, overgrown cemetery that Augusta Withrow left out of the paperwork.

Augusta Withrow left out a lot of things.

The property is in unusually great shape for a condemned building. It’s empty, but Dahlia and the crew quickly learn it is far from abandoned. There is still something in the Withrow mansion, something angry and lost, and this is its last chance to raise hell before the house is gone forever.

Stories from the shadows
Don't believe what they say. There really is something to be afraid of in the dark. You'll find it in a quiet motel in the middle of nowhere, on the other side of an attic door, under the bed when the lights go out, and in your own imaginings when your mind starts playing tricks. Whatever your fears may be, the nightmares begin here.
