Tail Gait is the 24th in the Mrs. Murphy series by Rita Mae Brown. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US. I read and enjoyed the early titles in this series years ago in DTB, but although I've now picked up a few later titles on sale, I haven't gotten them to the top of my TBR list yet. Maybe this time I will...or not...

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00N6PD2AQ
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/tail-gait

Spoiler:
Quote:
There’s nothing like a tail well told. Rita Mae Brown and her feline co-author Sneaky Pie Brown return with an all-new mystery featuring Mary Minor “Harry” Haristeen, crime-solving cats Mrs. Murphy and Pewter, and ever-faithful Tee Tucker the corgi.

TAIL GAIT

Spring has sprung in Crozet, Virginia—a time for old friends to gather and bid farewell to the doldrums of winter. Harry and her husband, Fair, are enjoying a cozy dinner with some of the town’s leading citizens, including beloved University of Virginia history professor Greg “Ginger” McConnell and several members of UVA’s celebrated 1959 football team. But beneath the cloak of conviviality lurks a sinister specter from the distant past that threatens to put all their lives in jeopardy.

When Professor McConnell is found murdered on the golf course the next day—gunned down in broad daylight by an unseen killer—no one can fathom a motive, let alone find a suspect. Just as Harry and her furry cohorts begin nosing into the case, however, a homeless UVA alum confesses to the crime. Trouble is, no one believes that the besotted former All-American could have done the foul deed—especially after Mrs. Murphy, Pewter, and Tucker make another gruesome discovery.

As the questions surrounding Ginger’s death pile up, Harry’s search for answers takes her down the fascinating byways of Virginia’s Revolutionary past. The professor was something of a sleuth himself, it seems, and the centuries-old mystery he was unraveling may well have put a target on his back. As Harry edges closer to identifying an elusive killer, her animal companions sense danger—and rally to find a way to keep Harry from disappearing into history.

Per an email I received from them, two titles from Crime Classics are $0.99/£0.99 at Kindle US/UK for the next two days - Jan 20 through 22.

Deadly Duo contains two novellas by Margery Allingham: Wanted: Someone Innocent and Last Act
Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MSOVISB/
Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01MSOVISB/
Spoiler:
Quote:
“My very favourite of the four Queens of Crime is Allingham” - J. K. Rowling

Wanted: Someone Innocent, follows the impoverished Miss Gillian Brayton, whose luck begins to change when a school reunion reacquaints her with a now-famous old friend, Rita Fayre. When Rita offers her a job she accepts immediately and is swept away in Rita’s Rolls Royce to what she expects will be a glamorous new life as nurse to a wounded war hero. The reality, however, is less than luxurious. Ignored by the staff, overwhelmed by the work, Gillian is sure things can’t get any worse. Until, that is, Rita is found dead…

In Last Act, Margot Rob, an aging French actress has taken up residence in a British country home along with her servants, two grandsons and a young woman she has taken on as her ward.

When she turns up dead there are no shortage of suspects. The grandson who, rumour has it, was about to be disinherited or the long time servant fed up of catering to the eccentric actress requests?

But in a country home murder, there's always more than one suspect…. so who killed Margot Rob?

And Death Came Too is a non-series title by Richard Hull
Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MJHPTLS/
Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07MJHPTLS/
Spoiler:
Quote:
After three nights of celebration in the oppressive August heat, four friends consider a very peculiar invitation.

Intrigue and restlessness triumph over exhaustion, and the group begrudgingly accepts… but upon their arrival at Mr Yeldam’s house, their host is nowhere to be seen. A man plays an odd game of solitaire, a strange woman flees out a back door, and the bizarre becomes deadly when a police constable enters, announcing Yedlham has been found stabbed to death in the other room.

Who had the motive and means to kill this reclusive man? With the prime suspect missing, the clock is ticking to solve this case before the four friends are accused of murder.

And Death Came Too is another golden age mystery from the sardonic and sly Richard Hull. Master of the inverted mystery, here he weaves a true-to-style, classic whodunnit.

And Death Came Too was first published in 1939.

And now the second and sixth titles in Jeri Westerson's Crispin Guest series have dropped to $1.99 each at Kindle US...

Serpent in the Thorns, #2: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079Z9RQXR
Spoiler:
Quote:
The disgraced knight turned inquiry agent searches for a missing relic in this Macavity Award-finalist mystery set in fourteenth century London.

Former knight Crispin Guest is now known in the streets of medieval London as the Tracker—an investigator who can find anything and anyone. What begins as a straightforward case of murder turns complicated when Crispin realizes that the victim was an important courier in possession of a holy artifact—an object so valuable that its absence could start a war between France and England.

Surrounded by possible suspects, Guest will have to use his wiles to navigate both the exclusive halls of King Richard’s court, and the hardscrabble streets of fourteenth century London. In a world full of old friends, mysterious strangers, and dangerous enemies—including the treasonous mastermind who caused Crispin’s fall from grace—Crispin will have to uncover a deadly conspiracy to protect his country, save himself, and perhaps even restore his good name.

Shadow of the Alchemist, #6: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZV42HMC
Spoiler:
Quote:
The Tracker takes the case of a French alchemist who is targeted for his secrets in this mystery set in the gritty streets of fourteenth century London.

After losing his knighthood, Crispin Guest has found a new calling as the Tracker, a private investigator who can locate anything—or anyone. Now famed French alchemist Nicholas Flamel needs Crispin to locate his wife, Perenelle, and his apprentice, Thomas Cornhill. But the case takes a sinister turn when Flamel’s apprentice is found murdered. The kidnapper promises that Flamel’s wife will be next . . . unless he hands over his precious Philosopher’s Stone, a magical object that can turn lead into gold.

Soon, strange, antiquated symbols begin appearing throughout the city. Crispin must decipher their meaning to unearth the kidnappers true motive. Plunged into an underground world where alchemy combines with treacherous politics, Crispin will have to unravel the mystery in order to find his wife and unmask a dangerous mastermind determined to wreak havoc throughout the city.

Shadow of the Alchemist was featured as a “Best of 2013 Selection” by Suspense Magazine and was a finalist for Romantic Times Reviewers’ Choice Award in the Mystery Suspense & Thriller category.
