Have to agree. I've had some Neil Gaiman for 1.99 but 2.99 is good for most big names.

No, a handful of Heyer's are generally at that price. Every few months, one title is repriced to match most books, and another moved to 99p. It's worth keeping an eye on Heyer (I've got about half her output in ebook now at 99p). EreaderIQ is your friend here.

“Today only, January 7, 2020, to mark Zora Neale Hurston’s birthday, download a free copy of Their Eyes Were Watching God”

Offer from the publisher. Hope the link works.

Addendum
Didn’t realize when I posted that you only get this if you sign up for their reading app. I expected links to Amazon, Kobo, etc. I hadn’t checked because I already own this.

Also, for those in the US...

Heyer's US e-publisher, Source Books, used to do a birthday sale of her titles in August each year. I've now got all of her titles that I want, and have had them for quite some time, so I don't keep an eye out for this sale anymore. But maybe someone else knows if it has happened the last few years?

Edit: Should these last few posts be in the Romance thread, since Heyer is mostly romance, and Lady of Quality definitely so...

Captain Blood
by Rafael Sabatini

Captain Blood is one of the great pirate stories. First published in 1922, Rafael Sabatini’s novel has never been out of print. It was the basis for the hit Warner Bros. movie Captain Blood (1935), starring Errol Flynn.

Although Blood is a fictional character, much of the historical background of the novel is based on fact. Blood is loosely based on Henry Pitman, a surgeon who tended the wounded Monmouth rebels and was sentenced to penal transportation to Barbados where he escaped and was captured by pirates. Unlike the fictional Blood, Pitman did not join them, and eventually made his way back to England where he wrote a popular account of his adventures. For Blood's life as a buccaneer, author Rafael Sabatini used several models, including Henry Morgan and the work of Alexandre Exquemelin, for historical details.

Rafael Sabatini was born in 1875 and died in 1950.
He produced thirty-one novels, eight short story collections, six non fiction books, and a play. He is best known for The Sea Hawk, Scaramouche, Captain Blood, and Bellarion the Fortunate.

Missed the freebie but at only .99, I might just buy it. Got a sample for starters.

Thanks!

Penman's books are so expensive normally, and go on sale so rarely, and even when they go on sale, are sometimes still sort of expensive, so thanks so much for posting this one at $1.99!

I really like Penman's Justin de Quincy mystery series, but also like her "regular" historical fiction, like this...

It's a wonderful site for classics, and he keeps adding titles - slowly, carefully, and surely.

He? Come on, man. Alex does some incredible work on that site, particularly with proofreading and such, but there's quite a few volunteer contributors doing the donkey work.
