Shorter, Dora S.: The Father Confessor – Stories of Death and Danger, v1. 22 Feb 2021
A collection of short stories, many very dark in tone. Some are lightly touched with the supernatural; some are concerned with death and murder; but many are simply stories of the mysteries of the human heart.
========== Dora Maria Sigerson Shorter (16 August 1866 – 6 January 1918) was an Irish poet, writer, and sculptor. She was politcally active, taking part in uprisings and demonstrations of the Irish revolution in the 1910’s. (It has been suggested that she died of “a broken heart” over the killings of Irishmen in the Easter 1916 uprising.) ========== This book was originally published in 1900, and is in the public domain worldwide. Thank you for sharing this. I have a Nook, but my wife has a Kindle and will certainly appreciate this. We both enjoy horrors, but she's definitely a bigger fan than I am.
What do you think about this collection? |

Well, they did not seem very *horrific* (unlike my previous post of W. C. Morrow collection A Night With Death), but they were very nicely written and can give you a few chills along the way. A few do tend to a rather flowery “Victorian” air, but I found most of the stories very readable.
