Help with Vista

I work at a hotel and we have a computer set up with Vista Business for guest use. Somehow, in the past few days, all the desktop icons have disappeared. If you go to the Start menu and try to readd the icons to the desktop, nothing appears. I have tried "Show desktop" button but still nothing appears.
So, do any of the computer gurus out there have an idea what has happened and if I, (someone with limited computer skills) can fix this?

You mean like Recycle bin and Computer? Right click on the desktop and select "personalize". Then click "Change desktop icons" on the left side of the new window.

Yep, "show icons" should be checked.

Thank you for replying. For some reason the "show icons" was unchecked. Once checked, back came all the icons.
