not really, Apple almost forces people to give them good reviews, if you don't you get on the their 'bad list" and they don't send you the official review products in advance. So basically your review is out 2 weeks after the all the other reviews had been done.

but it this way David pogue and walt Mossburger and the people at Engadget will never be on their "bad list"

Businessweek wrote an article which showed Apples execs demanded that MS stop those adds. MS claimed they would not stop running the adds, interesting enough at the time the article was written the ads quit playing.

Do you remember last year when Ellen had to apologize to Apple on air after doing a skit "making the iPhone seem difficult to use" ?

I don't know how anyone can use both Blackberry's UI and Android's Honeycomb UI and still think tha iOS is better. I don't get it all. You can only say " it's simple to use", for so long. But at some point if these tablets are going to be the future you are going to have to have a full functioning multi use UI . iOS is an app launcher and THAT IS IT.
For somebody who claims to hate to be a tin foil hat conspiracist you are doing a stellar job.

The RIM Playbook is shipping WITHOUT email and contacts capabilities and yet you'd rather believe that the mainstream media is in Apple's corner rather than look to RIM's brain-dead decision to ship a device without critical functionality. The media would have to exhibit a clear anti-Apple bias to do anything less than trash the RIM Playbook as it currently is shipping.

If you believe that iOS is merely an app launcher then you don't understand what operating systems and user interfaces are.

Or the Gizmodo incident? Soon enough, Apple will have its own jackbooted police force to ensure device compliance.

Thats not true. Pure urban myth.

It would be well publicized by said media outlets if Apple tried to pull a stunt like that.

Bias doesn't get any worse than in the forums. All it takes is a couple read-throughs and you quickly see where most people stand... and they won't waver with their opinions, right or wrong.

I took a look. Not bad. Not great either.
Probably dead before launching.
It doesn't seem to be offering anything new.
It's OS almost seems to be a cross between iOS, Android, and a little of this-n-that thrown in.
If they can sell it at $300 they might stand a fighting chance...
otherwise, why even launch a weak-market tablet?

It looks like Playbook has exceeded analysts expectation. RIM moved more than 50K units.

RIM has a strong following and this product was tailored just for their clientele.

No not DOA, not even close. HP is fully committed to the webOS, it's probably the best human interface on the market, what stalled webOS was Palms poor marketing and limited resources. HP doesn't have these limitations.

BTW it's not a surprise Android and Playbook look so much like the webOS. Android snagged up the lead designer for Palm when the company was acquired by HP and RIM pretty much admitted they stole the gesters and cards concept from them. As for looking like the iOS, not sure how? The launcher pad is a pretty common concept I use to have one back in the WinMo days.

yeah but forums are us "joes" we don't make a living in that arena.

If I wrote for Engadget and was in charge of reviews, I have an ethical obligations to be as objective as possible.
