Remember, 2x6" is still a lot less than actual 12". Also, there were a lot people in the forum complaining that the KDX is too heavy and bulky to be held comfortable with one hand. Maybe if you are a strong, trained male that might not be the case, however with like 14" you will need some kind of support and will not be able to hold it like an A4-sheet of paper. |

I agree that a larger screen e-reader would be ideal. However, not in its current implementation. The device needs to have a screen that rolls-up (as was suggested by another poster earlier in this thread). If the screen rolls up, you can make the same device a 6", a 9", a 12", etc, adding insignificant weight as you roll it to larger sizes. This technology is probably at least 5 years away.
As far as making a very large screen reader right now with the current technology (a 12", for example), it is not practical. The weight and clumsiness of the device would be a huge shortcoming. Plus it would be expensive to manufacture and it would come with a very high price tag. Very, very, very few people would be in the market for such a thing. The technology needs to change first, especially the display. Then it would make sense to have larger screen sizes. |

A large screen device could replace the need for a monitor and PC in an educational (and other) environment, where the screen would be either laid flat for viewing and discussions, or propped up....

Well when you think about it what if ebooks are simply going to gradually bring eink to laptops and desktops? If video can ultimately be established I can't see why not.

"Samples" of eInk with video refresh speeds have been demonstrated, but I suspect they're still several years away from commercial production.

True, my point was that it is twice the size of a single 6" display, with the added benefit of protection when closed as well as the ability to be held like a paperback, without the bulk. I guess I primarily see it as a replacement for books, not all kind of documents.

Can anybody start a poll about a larger screen kindle DX or other brand ereader? So, we don't have to listen to the cheap lecture from jswinden anymore.

Swiss Army Knife devices aside, I think in the (not so near) future the technology will be such that a lightweight, portable reader with a 12" or greater screen could be built and could be affordable. The fact remains that any device's success depends on the market. And smart companies that survive tend to do a lot of market research before releasing a new device. And frankly I doubt the market would support such a device with the current technology and pricing.

And in my opinion, forum polls or NOT necessarily representative of market realities as most buyers or would be buyers probably don't ever visit any particular forum. Forum polls are what they are, the opinions of those few who post in them. Last edited by jswinden; 07-25-2010 at 04:04 PM. |

Once again, personal attacks are not necessary nor welcomed. Constructive dialog of opposing views is preferred.
