Or, as hinted at earlier in the thread, the optometrist who just wants to look busy.

Two questions:

Can you read in full sun?

Is Apple going to sue someone over this?

LOL! I remember back in the early 1980's, in grade-school, my math teacher gave a test and said "no electronic calculators" - so I brought a slide-rule! The teacher actually let me use it, too (her words, IIRC, were "I haven't seen one of THOSE in years!". I got extra credit for it, too!)

my husband, a computer geek, has (somehere) a shadow box with a 6" slide rule in it, and the legend "in case of power failure, break glass".

We also made him a St. Vidicom of Cathode rosary with a yellow-handled screwdriver on it in place of the cross, for the same Christmas gift.

Back when the 1st atom bombs were built a slide rule was all they had for their calculations I believe. There is a round one for working out some math I think though I don't know where to find a picture of it.
Edit: found one through wikipedia

I had one of those. They had their plusses and minusses.

The bad thing was that they lost precision in the inner scales. The good thing was that you didn't poke your lab partner's eye out.

Before I rush out and buy one, I need to know if the books contain DRM.

And how many books there are to choose from in the appropriate format.

Seriously, I did do a Google search to see if any antique dealers were selling a Fiske Reading Machine. If I could find one that was reasonably priced, I'd consider it. It looks like the sort of device my grandfather might have owned. He had a few oddball things around the house.
