Online ereader survey from Sony

I have just been sent an email from Sony to fill in an online survey about their readers. The questions are quite well pitched--it is obviously geared at Sony improving their products: what features you currently like, what could be improved, what you would look for in a new reader. Also some questions about how they could improve their online store.

Thanks for that! I filled it out.....even though I'm not UK. I just chose "other" for the region question and converted $$ to Pounds for those questions.

I thought there were some interesting question. It definitely felt like they were trying to understand and hopefully respond to the market.

Yes it is very encouraging; I asked for a firmware update (latest epub software from Adobe)--you never know. The ereader market is getting more and more competitive, and the ipad will be out soon; I still think there is room for a big brand like Sony to grow if they can get the feature set right.

I liked the fact that Sony appears to be considering a book rental service along the lines of how ilovefilm.com and other DVD rental sites work. For a monthly fee you can download three books to keep for as long as you like, once you finish one you delete it and can then download another. Not sure how they will enforce the deletion of the old ones so maybe a firmware update to handle some new form of DRM.

OH and I would remove your link ShellShock

I wonder if it takes every survey taken as a new set of answers as it seems to be linked to an e-mail invitation. I took the survey too, putting in similar stuff like the rest of us. But on the side, I tried to register and also get to survey. This didn't work out.

One concern that I had - although this happens on a much wider front than just ebooks and readers - is that they seem obessed with "features" as opposed to content. I took every opportunity that I could to point out that I wanted a wide range of books at a fair price as the #1 priority.

Yeah, me too. I also made clear that I was more interested in a device specifically for reading books, rather than playing sudoku, minesweeper or listening to music on.

Yep, if I wanted to watch video or play games, I would probably go for an Ipad. But that's just not me.
