Library vanished
I downloaded a book to my PC this morning from Bolinda, when I went to add to Calibre, I noticed that my entire library of about 2GB has disappeared.
I have absolutely no idea what has happened, everything was normal a few days ago. I have two questions, is there any way I can identify the reason? secondly I assume that I can reinstate my data from my Kindle Paperwhite, would appreciate any tips how to perform this safely without losing it completely. I also have another issue dating back 12 months or more, I am unable to email books to my Kindle from Calibre, I have tried all the suggestions to no avail, so I have had to do it manually, by cut and paste, If I have to reinstate from Kindle, perhaps it might be an idea to remove and reinstall Calibre, any problems I have not foreseen? |

BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING THAT WILL MESS UP YOUR CHANCES OF A SIMPLE RECOVERY.
Use the OS file manager to search for metadata.db (there should be 1 for each Library you have) does The folder that it is in have lots of folders with AUTHOR names? That is a Library. Note the path. Now in Calibre. right-click the Library Icon: Switch/Create: USE EXISTING: navigate to where the metadata.db was found |

Thanks for replies, tried suggestions to no avail
in the metadata.db search, the only book shown is the one I downloaded earlier, when I discovered the problem. does The folder that it is in have lots of folders with AUTHOR names? NO. The result of the metatada.db search, resulted in the following, one backup json file 14kb, one dbf file 348kb and the recently downloaded book 'Right click the calibre icon in the calibre toolbar and select Library maintenance->Restore database. calibre will automatically rebuild metadata.db." This option not available |

Then search on your computer for the folder contianing your library, once you find it tell calibre to switch to using the library in that folder.

"Then search on your computer for the folder contianing your library,"
Isn't that what I have already done, or am I missing something? Use the OS file manager to search for metadata.db |

If the folder you found doesnt have your book files then it is a ewly created one, not the original library folder.

Thanks, I understand that but I don't see how I can find the original, if I search for metadata.db, I only find the new one.

Dont search for metadata.db search for an author or title for one of the books in your collection.

As can be seen from my recent previous posts my library vanished, you can also see, thanks to advice received, I was able to solve the problem. Today I went to down load a couple of books, only to find that the situation has returned.
This time however the procedure did not work, searching for a book or author produced no results. If I cannot resolve this situation, can I cut and paste from the Kindle to thePC? |

Just so we're all on the same page here, what O/S, what version of the O/S, what version calibre are you using and where do you store your library normally?

Windows 10, Calibre current version.
I have attached a screenshot of the situation as it is, it is on Drive D/ Calibre. The two books I have just down loaded can be seen, normally there is a long list of books downloaded over the last 5 years or so. Thanks for you reply. |

My C drive is a SSD containing Windows, D drive is for everything else, this is where Calibre is located.
