When I said "the launcher" I meant Kindle Unified Application Launcher, which running is failing in my Kindle. I've also restarted several times and did all the stuff I said previously.

MRPI works correctly, this is what it returns:
Code:
Hush, little baby . . .
Checking KUALBooklet 44a61b6 I
* KUALBooklet 44a61b6 I *
Running install.sh . . .
100%
Success. :)
Done, restarting UI
And after restarting the UI (and after rebooting it), when I try to run KUAL it shows the popup "The selected application cannot be started. Please try again later".

That's why I asked if there were more logs inside the Kindle to know what's happening when running KUAL, because MRPI works (also I've installed linkss with MRPI and it works too).

@JHAHunter: Nope, not on the Booklet variants.

@serginator: Okay, good, thanks for the details. There are system logs (;dm), but they probably won't help you much. Make sure you don't have leftovers from multiple copies of different KUAL variants, and that you're indeed trying to launch the right one (given your MRPI log, at least you *installed* the right one, so, that's a good start ).

And I meant it when I said "reboot your device and try again", since you've already updated the hotfix .

Thanks! I've searched for ;dm but nothing shows on screen, should it be as a file? The only file I saw as a log file is in mrinstaller folder, and shows more or less what I pasted on the last post I don't know if I can give you more info about it

About executing an old one, it's the only icon showing KUAL, but it could be the old one. Is there a way to get rid of old copies? Because I've did the ";log mrpi" with both uninstalls (kual and coplate) just in case. Maybe deleting developer/KUAL folder and run installer again?

Ok @NiLuJe, nevermind, I was running the old version as I thought in my first post and you said now, if I searched for "kual" it only shows one with the old icon. I removed all I saw about KUAL on the folders, and installed it again. Now if I search for "kual" it shows two, so I can now run the new one and it works. Thanks!!!

@serginator: IIRC, you can't have two Booklet versions, so, you probably have an old Kindlet variant installed.

As I mentioned in my other answer, they're easy to tell apart: the Kindlet one will have the custom KUAL thumbnail icon, while the Booklet one only has the KUAL text stripe.

Do a search for .azw2 files with your device connected over USB, you should find it.

I'm having the same issue as serginator and cannot install KUAL.

I'm on FW 5.13.2 on a PW3, Jailbreak seems to be working. The most recent hotfix is installed. I did install Python, linkss and the USBnet just fine. ;log mrpi is working. Linkss is showing book covers, USBnet is working.

There is currently no KUAL on my device anymore. I did run the uninstallers for the "normal" and the coplate KUAL.
At least I cannot find anything when I search for it via the Kindle search, also no KUAL files/folders via the Windows Explorer when connected as USB drive.

A while ago I had a Kindlet-version of Kual, which I have hidden via sqlite (https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...78&postcount=4).

Now I want to install KUAL. I chose the coplate version (KUAL (coplate) | KUAL-44a61b6-20200604.tar.xz) from the snapshots thread, which I guess is the right version for my PW3 and firmware.
Installing it via ;log mrpi says it is working successfully. At least there is no error, see log:

Code:
[2020-09-30 @ 11:57:05 +0209] :: [MRPI r17665] - Beginning the processing of package 'Update_KUALBooklet_44a61b6_install.bin' (KUALBooklet 44a61b6 I) . . .

Success! :)
I have rebooted the device multiple tines after installing KUAL coplate, but I cannot find KUAL, which previously just showed up as document.

What's weird, ist that there is a KUAL.kual in documents/, which is empty (0 Byte).

Is there anything that I'm missing or that I can try to get KUAL back? Thanks a lot in advance!

@dd23, have you tried to install KUAL-hotfix (from the same coplate package) as update?

Yes, I just tried that again (I had tried it before as well).
Installed the Update_KUALBooklet_hotfix_44a61b6_install.bin via ;log mrpi and rebooted afterwards. Still no KUAL :/

That's perfectly normal .

My best guess is either you have some funky filtering no your Library view, or the SQLite trick had a bad side-effect with the new Booklet approach (which sounds unlikely, unless you borked it ;p), or your content db is just plain broken for some reason.

I'd say factory reset, but that's a tricky thing to do without breaking everything, so you could theoretically try selectively wiping the ccdb in /var/local, although I've never tried that myself, so I don't know how good of an idea that is ^^.

I copied the cc.db to my machine and checked what's actually inside.
There is only 1 line that contains KUAL in the entries table, and that's referring to the old Kindlet-version, I think:

Code:
715a467c-a824-44a4-a54a-1cc30286190e	Entry:Item	/mnt/us/documents/KUAL-KDK-2.0.azw2	1504191513	1475954396	0	KUAL	KUAL	KUAL	[{"direction":"LTR","collation":"KUAL","pronunciation":"KUAL","display":"KUAL","language":"en-US"}]	1	ixtab NiLuJe twobob stepk	[{"name":{"direction":"LTR","collation":"ixtab NiLuJe twobob stepk","pronunciation":"ixtab NiLuJe twobob stepk","display":"ixtab NiLuJe twobob stepk","language":"en-US"},"kind":"Author"}]	1	[]	0	[]	0 0	1	0	0	0 []	0	application/x-kindle-application /mnt/us/developer/KUAL/metadata/thumbnail.jpg	127394 AZW2	2.7 [{"ref":"titles"},{"ref":"credits"}]	["DEV"] 0	2147483647 0	ixtab NiLuJe twobob stepk 0 0	kualkualixtab niluje twobob stepkixtab niluje twobob stepk	0 0	0	0 1	127394.0	1
p_isVisibleInHome is correctly set to 0, so it's hidden in the menu.

The rest seems to be my books, dictionaries and some collections.
So I guess I can't really delete anything here

How is the new KUAL actually supposed to be installed? I had a brief look at the install.sh, but I don't see where the actual setup happens. There are a bunch of lines which are added to appreg.db (and I can see them in my appreg.db), the KUALbooklet.jar is copied to "/opt/amazon/ebook/booklet/KUALBooklet.jar" (I also have that there) and the KUAL.kual file is created. In the end some KUALBooklet.jar is deleted again.
I dont't see what is going wrong here...

@dd23: It essentially associates '.kual' files with that Booklet (hence the empty KUAL.kual file, but you could essentially drop any number of files somewhere in documents, as long as they end in .kual, they'll all launch KUAL ).

That's in another SQLite db in /var/local: appreg.db

Ok, that's funny.
I just created a directory called kual2 in documents and put a foo.kual in there. Et voila, it shows up in my library as "foo" and opens KUAL. I guess that works for me

Hello! Hoping someone can help me. I have a Kindle 3 (Keyboard) that I am trying to run KUAL on. I installed the kindlet and it appears as a dev "book" but when I try to open it, I get this message -- "An error occurred when opening this title." My kindle is jailbroken, I have installed the latest MKK, and I have updated developer keys with this method.

Anyone know what I'm missing to use KUAL?

PS: This also happens with Coolreader 3 when run as a Kindlet.

@MonsteraPeru: Check that the date/time is accurate on your device.

(That may require shell access on a K3, IIRC. I think the setdate script exists, but I don't remember if the ;setdate search command does).

EDIT: Okay, read your link. I have no idea what this is on about (because it's from 2011!), but MKK is up to date, you don't need to do anything else, anything you try is likely going to make things worse.

Does the Kindle 3 have a built in date? It doesn't seem to have a date anywhere on the device. And the time is okay, within an hour of real time since the device crashes every so often while reading.

Updating the developer keys after the MKK did something. Beforehand, Coolreader launched and gave me the message "kindle waiting for command" and KUAL gave me a much longer message saying that the application had not shut down correctly, and then restarted the kindle.

Do you by any chance know why KindleNote would work on my kindle, whereas KUAL and Coolreader don't?
