GooPhone I5, iPhone 5 Knockoff, Already On Sale In China

This one looks like an actual copy of the leaked iPhone 5. I wonder if since it was actually released first, if GooPhone will be able to sue Apple for copying their GooPhone I5?

Oh oh, rectangular with rounded corners....

I can see their overworked legal and frivolous patents response teams fogging up their office windows in anger right now!

Apple WILL be angry

Last I heard this company sued Apple to prevent the iPhone 5 from entering the local market. And, since this China and foreigners always lose to well connected locals, Apple will have to cough up 50-100 million from their Samsung bounty to settle matters. Although they, most probably, won't admit it in public.

GooPhone is off to a good start because they have already patented the design of the leaked iPhone under their own GooPhone I5 name.

Presumably the leaked images can be held up as prior art when this gets challenged.

To be honest, the GooPhone infringes the existing iPhone patents. However, whether they'll get away with it in China is going to be worth watching.

Prior art did not work for Samsung in the USA, and you think that prior art is going to be useful to Apple in China.

Maybe the Chinese jury won't 'skip that bit'.

Prior art worked in the UK, Netherlands, South Korea and Japan.

Yes, give Apple a good kicking for being successful and applaud a company for trying to rip them off... copying and stealing is good... why bother trying to run a business and doing R&D etc when you can just steal it and get applauded for it... especially as it is Apple, just a bunch of no-good do-nothing bums... perhaps not...

Do you really not understand this quote? And that it is from Picasso?

I see you don't understand this, either. Those are not Sony phones. Those are Apple phones. There were no Sony phones that those were based on. They do sort of look like a Sony Walkman that was based on an iPod, though.

The idea that these were from Sony has been debunked numerous times.

A lot of techies resent Apple because they make products that are simple for ordinary people to use effectively. This devalues their tech skills, and they feel threatened.

Sort of like how Luddites destroyed machines, and for the same reason.

And a lot of "techies" don't resent Apple and use their products as well as others... and I bet my "techiness" predates that of most people around here, I just hate the mindless "Apple-hating" that goes on around here. I hate the equally mindless hating of other products/systems but Apple seems to get a lot more kicking than the rest... just remember never to be really successful around here unless you want to be a target as well...

Indeed. Others resent them because they don't want to be told what's best for them and want to choose instead. And yet others resent them for the patent trolling. Potato, potato.

I understand copying is something anybody can do. You have to work harder to steal something and make it better. While the quote has long been attributed to Picasso, there’s no proof he actually said it.

T.S. Eliot, a great thief, once said “One of the surest tests is the way in which a poet borrows. Immature poets imitate; mature poets steal; bad poets deface what they take, and good poets make it into something better, or at least something different."

I know these are not Sony drawings. Apple looked in part to Sony for inspiration in designing its first iPhone. These are Apple renderings of Sony mockups that even carried the name of the Japanese electronics company!!! While Apple didn't copy any specific Sony product, they admittedly used Sony-style design philosophies. A rectangular device with a screen and little or no buttons is not something original that Apple came up with, but a concept that already existed.

Apple has stolen ideas and concepts many, many times. Apple didn't invent tablets, phones, or music players, they stole them and improved upon them. This is what innovation is about. Taking an idea or concept, improving it, and making it better. I applaud Apple for this. It's hypocritical when other companies do the same things Apple has done and become the target of ridiculous patent lawsuits over rounded corners.

Good thing Eliot and Picasso are dead, because if they were alive today and Picasso could prove he thought of the concept first I shudder to think of the ensuing court battle.

Sorry, I don't have personal contact so Apple have never told me to do anything so I can't resent them for that... and as for patent trolling , that's pretty much everybody's game and Apple not only aren't the only player in town but didn't fire the first shot in many cases so I can't resent them for that unless I also resent your beloved Android and Google's patent trolling as well as all the others playing the same game. Overall the patent wars are past being ridiculous but so is the incredibly partisan bashing of particular companies, not just Apple but MS, Samsung, HTC RIM and on and on...
