Development on Sigil has stopped for lack of C++ programmers. Calibre is developing an editor as part of its functions and it can be used standalone. Its development is still continuing at a rapid pace.

It is not focused on epub2 the way Sigil is. Also the modular nature of calibre and its being based in python makes patching and extension much easier than does any version of C.
