I just tried recreating the doc in Calibre, went back to the metadata file and changed the language from "UND" to "ENG." After that, the Calibre file opened in Mobi Reader. So it does work, obviously depending on how the file is created.

The Calibre ePub file and folder organization is different than the organization I use (which was obtained from an IDPF link). My and the Calibre versions do not fully validate, though the Calibre version has fewer errors (but the Calibre version did not recognize some of the HTML markup, either).

I'll try creating a new file in Calibre and see what happens.

(By the way, the attached file is free, so anyone else, feel free to download it.)
I've found 2 "errors" in the OPF file (don't know if it's Dreamweavers fault or MobiReaders):

- The encoding info was missing: first line should read "<?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1" ?> (or whatever encoding is...)

- I deleted all lines with "imgl" defining all images with the same ID in the <manifest> part

The newly created ePUB was converted OK by MobiReader and looked perfectly OK in Adobe Digital Editions (the same as your original file)!

As I'm no ePUB specialist I really don't know what's specified by ePUB format, but at least MobiReader won't take it with those 2 "errors". BTW: All feedbook ePUBs are working perfectly with MobiReader...?!

I'll mail Mobi about this, but as I've already mailed them about 2 other things concernng ePUB and I have no other reaction then "we'll have to ask our specialists"... ah, well we'll see what happens...

Thanks for the book BTW.

I think they're not really needed (despite producing an error in Mobis conversion tool), as each image is later called in the html-files with it's original path and name...

You are correct, sir!

When I renamed each image ID to "img0," "img1," "img2," etc, the doc displayed properly in Mobi Reader. Adding the encoding to the top of the OPF file was not enough. (In fact, you can leave the encoding off, and the file still opens in Mobi Reader.)

And now we know.

Got mail: The seemed to haven't got my first question about the omission of ePUB in german version, so they were missing part of the information... Asked me about what version and build I was using.

Interestingly they're at the moment working on the ePUB conversion (with MobiGen and Reader) so I wrote them back about all the errors encountered up until now. I'll tell ya when I've got more information...
