Not referring to hardware, rather to the software. Note the reference to jailbreaking and losing Calibre Kindle Collections/Librarian Sync support. I certainly wouldn't want to manage collections manually for my non-Amazon purchased content.

IMHO they are adding a 5th LED to try and even the light out and are marketing it as this great new feature to "increase brightness". LACK of brightness hasn't been a complaint I've heard about any of the lit ereaders . |

From the PC Magazine review ...

So the new Paperwhite has also gotten rid of the glass substrate? (I thought they were talking about the outer layer.) |

I think the substrate is still glass, so the year after the adjustable frontlight color, there will be a model with a plastic substrate. |

My sis is really interested in this Paperwhite. Do you think they will have Black Friday specials? She's not in a desperate hurry since she would be taking her older unit with her on vacation anyway.

Yoohoo! What about Canada?
I note this latest Paperwhite will be available for release on November 7th as well from Amazon Canada. But Audible is disabled, just as it is for $400 Oasis. Why is that? Audible Canada is a real thing. Why cripple the branded devices which deliver it?

Silly question, but do you think some of the older Paperwhite cases will still fit the newer one since the shape and size are so similar? I'm not talking about Amazon official cases, but other designer cases. The ones I use leave the bottom open so moving the charging cables slightly shouldn't matter (although it seems they are still at the bottom so this is a moot point)

"Kindle Format 8 (AZW3), Kindle (AZW), TXT, PDF, unprotected MOBI, PRC natively; HTML DOC, DOCX, JPEG, GIF, PNG, PMP through conversion" AAX has been removed, so definitely no Audible support for the Aussie version |

Simple answer is probably licensing/rights and the $$ involved. They obviously figure the cost of obtaining this exceeds the extra return they could get for having it available on the device in these countries.
