What is your maximum price for a bundled set of short stories by Arthur C. Clarke?

As noted on a previous thread, Sony is selling 103 short stories by Arthur C. Clarke for $1.99 for each short story. That’s $204.97 for the complete stories.

Here’s the question:

If Sony bundled all these stories, what would be the maximum price that would cause you to think about buying them?

Prices are in USD.

I think the point of this is that it's aimed at people who wouldn't want to buy the whole lot. Just like buying all the tunes from a CD separately is a lot more expensive than buying the whole CD. If you wanted all these short stories it would be much cheaper to buy the collections in which they appear.

I only now submitted it.

(I mis-counted the number of choices and had to delete and then went back. It was there for only a moment. How did you post so quickly?

I haven't actually checked to see in what collections the stories appeared in, although I understand your point.

It's possible some may be uncollected although, again, I haven't checked on this.

If all the stories are readily available in collections, and if the collections are not over (let's say) $10., AND with approx. 15 stories per collection, that would be approx. 6 books to purchase....so, between $60. and $70.

Anyway, for what it's worth, to answer your question. If I was only interested in half a dozen specific stories, I think this represents good value for money. If I wanted a significant proportion of them, it would be a lot cheaper to buy the collections in which they were originally contained.

The problem I have is the are currently marketed in LRF which I don't use, so they don't do me any good at any price. I have the Hardcover collection of the stories....

You have the hard collection? (singular?)

All the stories are in this one collection?

I agree that the total cost is too high -- particularly for eBooks. Heck, they're practically *giving away* porn at $0.25 per book in the Kindle store. $1.99 for a short story, not even novels, is much too high even though the author *is* Arthur C Clarke. I voted not interested because I don't like reading short fiction. If it's good, longer is better!

Yes I do. The title is The Collected Stories of Arthur C. Clarke by Tor Books, First edition Feb, 2001. It contains 103 stories by Clarke and one collaberation with Steven Baxter (A rewrite of his first story.) ISBN - 0-312-87821-4. Approximately 1000 pages with forward.

Since these are old stories published elsewhere and not something you read to participate in a current discusion of sf then even $50 is much too high. I would probably pay what I pay for a paperback book with similar number of pages.

Ok, thanks for information on this.

I'll be summarizing my conclusions at the end of the poll. What you've provided is useful information.

Thanks,
