Maybe it is because I grew up traveling a lot as a child. I have always read in vehicles and have never had a problem with it. I love to read while riding in a car. I even read when riding around town.

Yep! I used to get away with reading on Ships, Trains and Planes (smooth air) but an past ear problem now makes me very sensitive to motion that does not match the horizon.

I've never had motion sickness. Reading in a car is no problem for me at all. Even on a boat in rough weather is not a problem.

I only get motion sickness when going in and out of shade blocking the sun i.e. trees.
My son used to get motion sickness reading when he was younger. He found if he was under a blanket (and used some sort of light) he was fine. |

I have always had this problem since I was a child. We visited my grandparents every week when I was young and it was an hour drive. I would read until I couldn't bear the nausea anymore and then close my eyes and lay down until I felt better. Then I would read again...
Like others in this thread I can't read in a car at all without getting nauseous but have no problems on a plane. |

I can't read a book in a car, but I am fine with an ereader. Perhaps the bigger font makes a difference.

For me, ever since I was 18*, just addressing the visual part won't help me. I need both the kinesthetic and visual inputs to be in perfect harmony, or I'm green. ApK *Oh yes, I remember the boat trip well. Which sucks for me, because I'm a scuba diver. Last edited by ApK; 06-03-2013 at 03:26 PM. |

I do feel for all of you who cannot read while moving.
My Dad used to have a car that had a light in the back that I could turn on so I could read when the light outside was not bright enough. Last edited by JSWolf; 06-03-2013 at 03:29 PM. |

I can't read in a car but I can manage 30 minutes on a bus if I sit somewhere in the centre.

I can't even read simple directions in the car. I'm a horrible co-pilot on roadtrips lol.

I can't read or even look at my iPhone in a car or on a train. I have never been able to read in the car, even as a child. I also get motion sickness playing 3D video games, so I gave up on that long ago.
I did read that this tends to go away after a person turns 50. That gives me 5 more years to suffer through. |
