PW2 DUOKAN..help

Hello guys
I have kindle paperwhite 2 running on 5.6.1.0.2 NO JB
So is there anyway to install DUOKAN into PW2???

The short answer is not without a Jailbreak. You should be aware that Duokan is not very popular with many at Mobileread. This is partly due to philosophical differences, as Duokan is not Open Source. However, the main reason is that Duokan apparently uses the Mobileread Jailbreak without even the courtesy of attribution. You will find that Koreader is much preferred. Unfortunately, this also relies on a Jailbreak.

Correction:
Doukan uses many software sources licensed under various Open Source licenses, but fails to comply with the terms of those licenses.

The differences are not philosophical, they are legal issues.

In contrast:
Amazon e-ink Kindles use a OS that is also closed source, and utilizes many software sources licensed under various Open Source licenses, but attempts to comply with the terms of those licenses.
They even do a fairly decent job of it - with a few exceptions (they are still in violation of the GPLv2 as it applies to the initramfs they ship).

You can not install Duokan using a Mobileread jail break - Duokan installer is designed to be incompatible.
And Duokan has not (yet) bundled a jail break for the series 5.6.x firmware nor released a Duokan version for v5.6.x that uses our jail break (unless you know of a Duokan link/release that we don't).

So you are in the same boat as the Chinese Kindle owners - who install our KOreader using our jail break installed via the serial port.
A little bit of searching here will find a recent thread on the subject, where we "fixed" some bugs in our add-ins for the Chinese KT2 (and presumably the Chinese PW2, KV).

Currently only over the serial port.
There is no "closed Kindle" JB for 5.6.x

I have a PW2 (Serial Number B0D4*) with Firmware 5.9.5.1 (and obviously no JB)

And Im tired of not being able to see my book cover nor screensaver_hack,

The same situation remains today? (in order to install an alternative OS)?

Duokan installation, like any other alternative OS, required that the device be jail broken. *
The Duokan project never developed a jail break for any Kindle model/Kindle firmware version.
Never.
They always used ours, sometimes with changes to its general purpose usability.

When miui purchased the Duokan project, they discontinued its development (that occurred during that long time when we did not have a jailbreak (they could steal) - they had to develop their own or shut down, they shutdown).

It really breaks my heart
(And no suggestions that I sat on the one we eventually released until Duokan folded please.)

* there might be some exceptions for the model/firmware version combinations that support ADB.

Several of the newest Kindle models appear to be designed with Android in mind.
The dual-core, 2017 Oasis has probably the minimum hardware resources to make Android practical.

So keep that in mind, someday you may have reason to purchase a newer than PW2 model.
The general trend over time is more computer resources, even in consumer devices.
That is, sometime in the future people might have a practical choice.
