Are any of these rigid enough to keep the Nook from bending and fracturing the glass, if it's put under pressure in a pack or pocket?

The B&N one is too flexible and wouldn't work for your needs. The Fintie one would work fine under most circumstances, but it is not industrial-strength. Provided you don't throw your backpack to the ground, or slam the corner of an 8 pound book into the unit, it should do fine. It would work fine with the inner pocket of a coat provided you don't stick a seatbelt over it ( that's how a family member wrecked their reader).

Hi Hank,

Most covers will give you a fighting chance at surviving a drop, especially onto carpet. But there is no safe way to flex an ereader (yet!).
