How does someone get banned?

Either the mods are here 24/7, or we are a fairly compliant crowd. At least, compared with a few other places I frequent.

Taking into account timezones and international membership: much like members are posting 24/7, it's extremely likely that there's at least one mod (often more) floating around at any given time.

But yes... in general, we are a fairly compliant crowd. So it's a little of both, I think.

From what I've gathered some other reasons for being banned are things like asking how to get hold of a pirate copy of a book still in copyright, talking on the board about how to get round DRM and I would assume advertising where someone could get pirate ebooks. All three are big no-no's from what I understand.

On DRM, we can talk about it, we can (and many do) remove it, we can comment on the latest release of the tools and even describe where to find them, but we can NOT provide detailed descriptions of the mechanics of using the tools. The tools only work on your own books that you've bought and have nothing to do with piracy.

I would challenge that point. Since you don't own the book, you have no right to break the DRM; even if you delete the book later.

MR policy (which was tweaked recently) is that we assume that those who strip DRM from OverDrive books for their reading convenience, format-shifting for example, have no intention of keeping/stealing/sharing/uploading/selling the books and that they delete them in a timely manner. As such, we have no issue with people referring to it.

You can challenge it if you like! Obviously there are strong feelings about it, pro and con. My post was only a heads up that we're not moderating for comments along those lines any more.
