Thumbs up Free (DRM-free) Soothsayer by Mike Resnick [Sci-Fi Future Frontier Space Adventure]

Soothsayer by multiple Hugo Award-recipient Mike Resnick (ISFDB, Wikipedia) is the 1st in his Oracle Trilogy subseries of his Birthright Universe of far future frontier-exploring space opera adventures, this installment setting up the heroine who's destined for a very eventful life, free courtesy of publisher Phoenix Pick Press, who are e-printing it from its original 1991 Ace Books paperback.

This is their featured Free Book of the Month for November, and there's also a tie-in deal to complete the trilogy at a discount.

Currently free through November directly @ the publisher's special promo page (DRM-free ePub/Mobi bundle available worldwide).

The bundle deal which gives you #2, Oracle, and #3, Prophet, is available for just $4.99.

There's also a second, separate deal which will give you a newly-written title co-written by Mike Resnick and Tina Gower in the multi-author Stellar Guild space opera series for just $1.99.

I always really liked Resnick's "Santiago" series of novels (which apparently are in the Birthright Universe as well), and had no idea there was anything else written in the same setting, so it'll be interesting and hopefully entertaining to read this one.

Description
Readers of Santiago and Mike Resnick’s other exciting and evocative novels know that the galaxy’s Inner Frontier is filled with some mighty dangerous characters, such as the Iceman, the Mouse, Merlin, the Yankee Clipper, the Mock Turtle, and more.

But we’ll bet you didn’t know that the most dangerous person on the Frontier, perhaps the most dangerous human or alien who ever lived, is a frightened little six-year-old girl who wishes she was anyone else.

Come meet her, and her one friend, and her multitude of enemies, in the pages of Soothsayer, the first book of the Oracle Trilogy – and experience an adventure similar in tone both to Santiago and to Josh Whedon’s TV series Firefly (and its follow-up movie Serenity).

Mike Resnick is the winner of 5 Hugos (from a record 37 nominations), as well as dozens of other major awards all across the world, and was the Worldcon Guest of Honor in 2012.

The Soothsayer trilogy is quite good. I've read it before and will probably grab the bundle so I have it all in ebook format. There's other stuff in the Birthright universe beyond these though, this is a good list of them all.

You should enjoy The Outpost and the Widowmaker series a lot if you liked the Santiago novels.

But man, the covers on this version... so ugly. I'll probably go with the ones below. The first one is a bit meh, but it's not as bad as the Phoenix Pick one! And I quite like the other two.

Thanks for the rec!

Also, last day to pick up the freebie and/or purchase the tie-in deals if you were interested but hadn't already.

I got the first one and read it. Decided not to get the rest.

It seems that all of Resnick's books are the same.

Glad you bumped this, I had forgotten to buy them and I wanted the trilogy. I also got the new Resnick book, since I like his writing a lot.
