I am curious. When B&N quit selling ebooks outside the US could people still use their Nooks to access their library from Kobo?

In the UK, yes. From what I remember about chatting with one person, you could not directly access your books. You had to download the books using ADE for DRMed editions or directly for non-DRMed versions and then transfer them to your Nook. Much the same as when Sainsbury originally took over for B&N.
