Mystery and Crime White, Ethel Lina: The Lady Vanishes (1936): V2

Ethel Lina White (1876-1944) took up writing books in the late 1920s, first trying mainstream novels, and then turning to slightly gothic thrillers from 1931.

This is her best-known novel, originally published as "The Wheel Turns", but after it was filmed by Alfred Hitchcock as the very succesful "The Lady Vanishes", reprints have gone by the latter name. A young lady becomes friendly with an older woman on a trans-continental railroad journey, but when her friend fails to appear for breakfast on the train, she cannot persuade anyone that the woman had ever existed.

Original book covers are not easy to come by and may still be copyright in some cases. I have made up a generic cover employing a vignette from a photograph of Ms White taken in the 1920s, and the rest is typography.

Bit of a mistake in the book - Chapter 9 relies on an id of #09 but that doesn't exist. So the TOC and Contents Page are broken.

Minor issue, soon fixed, I'm at a loss about how it has happened as both the TOC and Contents page have the references to Chapter but there is no id associated with it for them to refer to.
