Please read: Spam attacks
Moderator Notice As you'll have noted, we've been inundated with spam the last several evenings. We've been trying to ban the accounts as they're created, but it requires constant vigilance, the spam still slips through and we can't keep up. The good news, such as it is, is that it's confined to the General Discussions forum. Please don't bother to report it; we are aware. If everyone could just carry on, it will be cleared at intervals as we try to come up with a permanent solution. |

Thanks to you and the other moderators for watching this one. And, BTW, there is a ton of junk waiting for you this morning.

Most forum users do not have an idea of how much work it takes to keep a forum clean of spam. Even banning accounts doesn't get rid of spammers. They are able to create new accounts quite quickly. Thank you for the vigilance and hard work you do to keep this forum a spam free zone.

Would it be a good idea to ban new members from posting more than once every 10 minutes or so? That would slow down the flood - I've seen 10+ of various spam posts from the same account within the same minute.
Either way, thanks for squelching these so quickly. The past few days when I check the forums in the morning there have been pages of these posts. |

I second your opinion. This may at least reduce the flow of spam and discourage the spammers.

Maybe look at a plugin of the typepad antispam kind? It worked for a friend on his forum.

Moderator Notice
Bumping in the face of a renewed massive attack. Please don't report this spam. We see the spam as soon as it appears and we get to it as quickly as possible. Massive reporting creates its own problem and slows us down, as we have to check each report to make sure it's not "ordinary" spam, which we do want reported as it's much less obvious. Thanks. |
