Are books purchased on Scibd.com DRMed? Can they be uploaded and de-DRMed on Calibre?

It's a weird kind of subscription library. You can't outright purchase ebooks there. Buy outright at Smashwords, Google, Kobo, Amazon, ebooks.com etc
Not Barnes & Noble or Apple as they are too specific.

Barnes & Noble eBooks can be DeDRM'd if you have the Windows app (though see this is you're outside of the U.S.), and Kindle DRM is kind of fussy.

Does Scribd do ebook sales? From what I've seen, they are more of a lending library. In that case, removing DRM from a book that you do not own is hard to justify.

Well, Amazon is only OK if you are outright buying books (not Prime or KU borrows) and have any sort of eink that Amazon knows does AZW3 and registered to account. Then ONLY use download from website and not actually use the eink Kindle.

For some Barnes & Noble is tricker because no Windows or not in USA.

Yes, I was thinking of the 'no Windows' thing.

There is a workaround for outside of the U.S. (acquiring the app outside of the Windows store) but I'm not sure that it'll work for 100% of books.
